It wasn't like he was attending classes in Arithmancy anyway, given there being no teacher this year. But he had enough to cover his own curriculum should he need it. That was one class off his schedule. "Everything inspires me." And he didn't think that choosing between his classes was fair, when one day he could have wished he had taken them.

"I want to learn what I can now, when my mind is as absorbent as it is..instead of getting so far in a career and wishing I had taken the education given to me before with both hands instead of just taking what I needed at that point. The career path one chooses at fifteen isn't set to be the only career they ever have. Priorities change. Interests change. People change." But he hadn't come here to make a case for why he was taking so many subjects. He came to ask for guidance.

"At university, Sir."
Paul was not offended. "I do not think you can't handle it, m'boy. I merely worry about you sanity. But, you have always been a student who is willing and wants to push himself. Excuse me if I have crossed any line with you," he spoke calmly. He never wished to offend Rooney. He cared a lot for the boy.

So, he wanted to know which ones to take.....after he had moved on. "What do you plan on doing? What will you be studying predominantly?" He would love to say Herbology just right off the bat. But he couldn't rightfully say the subject if it might benefit Rooney more to take something else.

"...Would you like tea?" Had he offered yet? He couldn't even remember. Merlin.

If there were ever a student who could compare to Paul's dramatics as a student, it was Derfael. Granted, Paul was fond of the boy. He was clever, funny (without awareness, perhaps), and he made good points almost constantly. Especially in lessons. And Paul knew he wasn't a fan of plants, yet he still came. And tried. And gave him a hard time, but Paul didn't mind. Maybe he would come to like plants? Or at least not...be terrified of them.

He wanted if the boy still thought him a dark wizard. Thank you, Alfred, for that little nugget of info. It made him laugh.

"Slow down," he said quickly. "You're angry at all of them? Professor Hirsch? Healer Reed? Mr. Kennedy? Professor Stewart?" he asked. Something about PTSD situations... er.

ER?

"Tell me the entire story, if you will. So that I can understand." Paul's tone was calm.

A big pile of pillows that you could throw yourself onto or take a nap on. She went over to the couch that the professor had gestured at at settled onto it. "I brought this for you." Isa held up the small pot of chrysanthemums for him to see. "They change color." At the moment they were a sort of pinky orange color.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything important. I'm looking for some guidance for working with some more advanced plants, maybe flesh-eaters. Nothing too dangerous though, just something new to expand my herbology knowledge and skills." The plants she had were nice, but she felt that it was time to start learning more advanced things. It was easy to get bored of the basics after a while when you had seen so many magical and mundane plants at home that her classmates might never have encountered before herbology lessons. There were other things that she might talk to him about as well, if he had the time. She really admired Professor Myers.

A GIFT! Paul BEAMED. "Oh, Isa! They are WONDERFUL! Oh my goodness--I LOVE THEM!" he laughed and took the pot in his hands. "They change colors...lets see..." and he took a seat on the couch. "What triggers the color change, do you know?" he asked curiously. Perhaps a future lesson was in order. He had a whole horde of color changing roses, if Isa remembered. This was gorgeous, though. Going right on his desk and being taken care of VERY WELL. Paul was not a plant killer. He was good about keeping his office plants alive, and that was good, too, or else he'd rethink his whole passion in life.

"Well if you want to start with flesh eaters, I suggest you look at the flesh eating firs. They eat only the flesh of others their own. They're cannibals," he smiled cheerfully. "They have teeth. And they like to grab you. They know me by now, so they don't grab me so much anymore, but..." he chuckled. "If you were to approach them, they would attempt to grab you. Of course, they'd realize you weren't food and let you go. But they are a safe spot to start when dealing with flesh eaters." Ah, the flesh eating firs.
