Aslan settled back in her seat, and Will felt vindicated in his assessment. Disappointing, but not at all surprising. He looked around for Khalil, sure that his friend had to be there. Khalil was always close by whenever Will was embarrassing himself. It was the universe's idea of a joke.
"I hear you calling me a child, kiddo, but I'm not going to take offense. You're an older woman, right? You think Wampii sounds more or less stupid than Wampuses? That sounds like some sort of skin disorder.
He noted the shift in the crowd's attention, and his own attention immediately went back to the screens. Dementors? That was a task he wasn't expecting, and it made him glad he hadn't been picked. "That seems a little extreme for a first task."
And was Madelyn yelling FOR a Hoggie? "Mads! Don't cheer for the traitor. He went over to the other side a whole term ago."
Katy was having so much trouble watching the competitors that she'd opted to peek at the screen from between her fingers. Imagine how much worse it was to be out there on the field where there were no fingers for safety. She eeped occasionally too. This was the stupidest thing ever. Death for what? A scholarship that some of these kids didn't need... and that the rest wouldn't be able to enjoy because they'd gone and lost their SOUL.
She let herself be distracted by the Ilvy cheerleader, who was NOT particularly cheerful at the moment. Ugh. Feelings. They provided a good distraction, at least, and Katy slid down to sit beside the girl. "No offense, because I don't know you and I figure we're supposed to be mortal foes until the end of this little exercise, but he's a duffer and you'll do better. His name is Brent." Which offended Katy on a personal level and always had.
