A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Mason focused on his obsession with all his thought and watched, fascinated as a silver shapeless shield was casted between the dementor and himself. Of course, he had secretly hoped there would be a corporeal patronus because he was very curious to know what shape it would take but he was pleased with what he had managed for now.
The dementor wasn't gone yet but the shield only halted the creature from coming closer but it was better than them both having their souls sucked out. He still had so many things to do in life! And even if they say that you won't die from it, the effects of what happens to someone who lost their soul was more terrifying to him.
Looking towards the old man, who was staring straight ahead and still babbling, Mason suddenly wondered that if he wasn't an illusion, perhaps he was a muggle? Or maybe a prisoner who was getting The Kiss anyways when this challenge ended? The Ravenclaw suddenly looked at the man as if he was judging him and he was. What if he was helping a criminal right now? Had he killed someone?
No, no those were foolish thoughts. The tasks were dangerous, he knew that, but he doubted they would use an actual criminal and if they did well...that was new, wasn't it? First they needed to get away thought, he could find out what and or who the old man was later.
But before he could talk to the old man, Mason saw that he began to shiver violently. Why was he shivering?! Was it the cold? The dementor exposure? The seventeen year old knew that here was no such thing as a calming spell either, he knew of a potion but he did not carry potions with him. If he survived this challenge and managed to get to the second task by some miracle he was going to take his bag with him and store in some supplies. Or was that not allowed?
Or a cheering charm? With his state of mind right now, Mason wondered what the effects would do on the old man. It was probably going to make him a nutcase so that was out of the question. Chocolate was one of the temporary cures as well but who even thought about taking chocolate with them during a task?! That was ridiculous and Mason didn't have any sugar with him either. Nor could he make chocolate himself thanks to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration.
The thought that he could summon some chocolate did come to mind. If Harry Potter could summon a broomstick, something he had find out when he had done some research on all kinds of tournaments like this one , he could summon chocolate. He visualised a piece of chocolate , flying through the air towards him and actually began to laugh despite the seriousness of the situation. It didn't hurt to try righ? And if it didn't work he always had plan B. And if THAT didn't work, he'd had to go with plan C and the old man was NOT going to like plan C.
Concentrating with all his might, Mason thought of the box of chocolate frogs in his trunk in the dormitory. He visualised the shape, the color even the taste of it before he swished his wand in the air and non-verbally summoned two of them.
If this worked he was going to laugh for days.
Not relying on the chocolate entirely, Mason looked quickly at the Dementor, shivered and then put the old man's arm over his shoulder to support him. The shivering made it difficult but what else was he supposed to do?!
Plan C of course...but....please don't make him do plan c. "Sir! Sir calm down i'm here to...." here to what exactly? Mason didn't finish his sentence because he had the feeling that the old man wasn't even aware that he was there. They needed to get away from the dementor and out of the forest and quick. He was positive that the effects of the dementor exposure would fade away eventually when they were taken to the hospital wing.
Still supporting the old man, Mason searched around and saw the fiery red X in the distance and began to move towards it, trying to get away from the creature.
