Or at least his mother did send him candy... but that was before the fight he'd had with his father, before he'd had to cut off all contact with both of his parents.
He mentally shook himself. No time to dwell on that now! Back to the matter at hand. He noticed Miss Holden taking notes on what was said and gave her an approving smile. He hoped he hadn't interfered too much with her note-taking when he took out the lights! Oops? He was glad for the momentary darkness, as it helped to conceal his wand. There was no way he'd be able to turn the lights back on wandlessly in his current state of mind, but he didn't want her to know that.
He couldn't help but smile a little as he looked back at Miss Holden and saw her starstruck expression. "Thank you," he said, bowing his head slightly to hide the blush rising to his cheeks. It wasn't often that students complimented him! His head jerked back up as the girl spoke. Good, he was glad she was following so far! Ne nodded. "It can be, yes," he replied, "but what you do when that happens is use that emotion to your advantage." Like he'd done by turning off the lights just now. "If you start getting frustrated with a spell, try practicing another, angrier spell... like Incendio or a Knockback Jinx, for example."
He gave a moment for this information to sink in before going on, "It's also best to start simple. Wandless magic is like learning to do magic all over again. You start with the simple spells first, and work your way up." And now he had a question for her. "As a matter of interest, how far along are you with nonverbal magic?"
More chocolate? Merlin. He was trying to bribe her, wasn't he? Tsk. Tsk. Her vote for best Professor could be bought with chocolate. She'd say no but honestly it would be bought. She thought with a chuckle and decided not to mention it. "
No thank you. I'd love another one but I should be good."
It got dark. And then he turned on the lights. Awesome. Wandless magic was absolutely incredible. Her eyes widened in awe at his next statement. So she could practice spells based on her emotions. Incendio and the Knockback Jinx? Sweet. This would be great. She wouldn't have to be too focused for other spells.
She nodded again a couple of times. Start with the simple spells and work her way up. Olivia could do that. She wanted to learn this and she would pour every ounce of her being into this task. To his question about nonverbal magic, she answered genuinely. "
By the end of last term, I was able to cast several spells nonverbally. Finite and a couple of jinx spells." She had been very proud of that. She particularly enjoyed casting "finite" nonverbally. It was just so much fun. She didn't really have any other reason why. "
I can also cast protege non verbally too."
