Apparently she wasn’t needed to help with the pouring, since before Stasya could offer to help Emmeline had poured their mixture into the bowl of popcorn and already started stirring. All that was left was to make it all into balls, and she had nodded nearly at the same time she had heard Professor Marchand announce that the lesson was over. Well at least it looked like Emmeline had made her half of their popcorn mixture into balls. She let out a sigh, half tempted to ask if she could just finish up her balls right now. She was so close, after all, and she felt like she was one the professor’s good side sine he had just complimented her. That meant he shouldn’t have minded…

Except then Derf happened, and instead of raising her hand, Stasya had literally crawled underneath the table she and Emmeline had been working at to avoid getting hit by the splattering butter, and she stayed there, wide-eyed, as she heard Liv screaming and a couple other whimpers from others in the classroom. Maybe she didn’t need to make her popcorn balls right now. Except she did peek out from her shelter to make sure none of the butter had hit the bowl with her half of their popcorn mixture in it. And she then reached over and pulled the bowl down under the table with her, nibbling on little bits of semi-cooled candied popcorn. She’d heard the professor say they could bring their mix with them to finish, after all. She’d just heat it up again in a bit and then practice the cooling charm…or maybe now. Under the table. There was plenty of butter around, so she got some on her hands and made one tiny little ball out of a bit of the mix in her bowl, semi-cleaning her hands on the floor before taking her wand and making the little M shape. “Frigidus,” she whispered, breathing a little sigh of relief as she felt coolness coming from her wand and finishing the cooling process on her ball.

She’d just turn the rest into balls after class. But she wasn’t leaving until she knew the butter was gone.
