Etta still couldn't believe he'd made a shirt with her face plastered on the top.. A shirt. Her FACE. She honestly didn't know what to feel about it. Mostly flattered but maybe a little awkward too. Was it even worth having HER face on a shirt after all? But she loved that Derf thought it was. He really was one of her favourite people.
She nodded when he mentioned taking care of the butter but said, "You should have more confidence, Derf. I'm sure you can do it better than me.".. which was true. She wasn't saying it just to be kind. Etta watched him carefully add the butter before he looked at her for clarification. "Yes, you're saying it right. Go on."
Etta smiled at him once more before proceeding to pour the necessary amount of corn into a bowl and pulling out her wand. She drew a flame-like shape with her wand over the bowl of kernel. "Calefacio." Soon enough, the kernels started to pop. She turned towards her partner once again, wondering if he'd managed to heat-up the butter.
Well she better believe it because he DID and it was a really pretty picture too!
"You're a champion not me," he reminded her with a boyish grin. A little bit of a sad one to be honest because it still STUNG a little, you know? Being told you were too. But he was TRYING not to think about it because it wasn't her fault he wasn't chosen. Nor was it Carl's. Who...he still didn't actually know but wanted his signature too. Legends in the making, you know.
Nodding as Etta confirmed he had the incantation right - YAY! - so at least he had a tiny bit of a confidence boost to work with. Clearing his throat, he pointed his want at the bowl with the butter and...er...HOW big was the flame tracing supposed to be? Bigger the trace the more powerful the spell could be...right? And since he WANTED to impress Etta...well...that meant BIG flame. And so it was with a VERY exaggerated and honestly quite flamboyant swish of the arm, the second year traced a three quaffle sized flame shape in the air. "Calefacio!"
At first the butter seemed to be melting at a pleasant pace. The perfect sort where it would not froth and make a mess...but it was fleeting. The charm's heat only seemed to intensify with each passing second until it was a bubbling boiling mess in the bowl and --
*SPLAT*
YOU GET SOME SCALDING BUTTER! AND YOU! AND YOU! AND YOU! BUTTER EVERYWHERE!
