The guidelines had been given but the truth of everything that was to come had yet to be revealed. It was all a part of the mystery and excitement of the overall competition she supposed. Cassie was still just a tad unsure how she had been picked out of her house but regardless, she was going to give it all she had. If not for the end result that certainly benefited her, for her house’s pride in the wake of each of the challenges placed before herself and the others. That was more than enough to push her forward into the task at hand. And soon enough, it was the given Saturday and her hour was there upon her.
Approaching the allotted area for her part of the first challenge, the fifth year was quick to take in her surroundings. Something she always remembered from her head of house’s lessons…constant vigilance. She certainly didn’t want to make a big mistake early on and ruin her chances of moving on by a regrettable action she could have easily avoided. Cass' cautious gaze was greeted by a dark, wooded area at the edge of the forest and she couldn’t help a slight shiver at the scene. Eerie didn’t even begin to describe it and this was just the beginning of the challenge. The very first one at that.
But she had to go on. No sense backing out now even if she wanted to. You can do it, Cass, she reminded herself, her hand reaching and slipping her wand out of her pocket and holding tight. “Lumos!” she cast, lighting the tip of it to bring some brightness into the dark fog before taking first one step and then another and then another into the waiting forest.
Come what may…Cassandra McNally was ready to begin.
