So, is this what all Americans are like? Kyle thought dourly. They were loud, shouting something about selfies, and had come out of the bonnet of an old Volkswagon Beetle. He probably wouldn't have even known what one was if it weren't for his father taking him on Muggle outings. Then again, they're excited, he told himself. I would probably be loud if I traveled somewhere far away too. With a nod, he tried his best to reassure himself. They'll settle down. I'm sure they will. Once the excitement passes.

His father had taught him that your first thought wasn't important, it was what you thought next once you had your wits gathered around you that was important. Hopefully he had made up for his initial thought with subsequent ones. First impressions may be important, after all, but a good judge of character let the first impression slide and waited to see what a person was really like. You never knew what a person was covering up, for good or for ill.
