And now they got to write down secret messages. This lesson was turning out to be fun. Well, all learning was fun in Maxton's eyes but this was extra fun.
Maxxie dipped the tip of his quill in the clear liquid and wrote down the first thing that came to his mind... DAISY SMELLS. "Here you go," he said, pushing the parchment across the desk towards his older sister. "Sprinkle on the dust and see what I wrote!" Hehehe! It was safe to say that Daisy was distracted. Later, she would say it had been the waiting around. Maybe from now on, it would be better for her to arrive at the exact time the lesson started, instead of giving herself time to sit down at a desk and daydream. The class had started but she wasn't really paying attention, busy as she was doodling distractedly on the parchment and thinking. It was almost sunny inside the classroom and summer was still too close, so of course her mind wandered. It wandered towards sunny days, dogs playing in the water, white sand and -- "Maxton." She whispered to her brother, only catching the end of Professor Canterbury's explanation. Something about dust and pearls? Some liquid involved? The sixth year tensely rubbed the side of her neck as her eyes quickly darted around the room, before returning to her brother. Another whisper. "I might need to borrow your notes." Which was probably not the way this was supposed to go. Maybe she would find Levi after class and ask to duplicate his notes. Yes. That way she wouldn't be asking her second year brother and. Well, it was a good plan.
For later. They had stuff to do now, clearly. She grabbed the quill and copied what Maxton did did just as instructed. Despite the fact that her brain knew she was writing something, it was pretty weird not to see it being written. Could she even spell if she couldn't see what she was spelling? Were the words all jumbled up on top of each other? Nevertheless, Daisy wrote, hopefully, THE CANNONS STINK AND SO DOES MAXTON and passed the parchment to her brother's side of the workstation. "You sound far too amused for this to be any good." Daisy commented, sprinkling pearl dust on top of --- Oh. Hilarious.
Daisy rolled her eyes and swatted his arm. "I do not smell, Maxton Robert. You're full of lies, you know." Which was rich considering what she had written. Not that the Chudley Cannons part was a lie -- it really, really wasn't, she would like that to be clear. She was ready to explain it all to Maxton but then Hogwarts -- was Hogwarts.
The Hufflepuff kid from the feast, the one she swore she recognised but could never remember his name, was puking, Levi was there and Abey was... Well. Remember how her faith in Hogwarts' staff had been broken last year? Yeah, it broke all over again. So she left the workstation and found her way to the slight confusion as fast as she could, grimacing at the look of all the vomit but satisfied that people were dealing with that. She turned to the second year Gryffindor, wanting to offer physical comfort but unsure of how to do that because she still remembered watching as Abey and Simon had exited the portal last term and she really didn't want to make things worse. She sent Levi a quickly look before sort of awkwardly standing by the younger Gryffindor, crouching down to stand at his level. "Abey, he's fine. There's no need to cry, Professor Canterbury is going to make sure he's fine." Or Levi was. One of those. Her hands twitched at her side, but she tried to keep her face as comforting as possible.
Again. Remind her how no one had been fired? |
