She wasn't certain how much comfort such a scrawny shoulder would offer but the young girl did her best to sit still and upright so he wouldn't end up straining his neck. Thankfully, her words sent him shooting right back up because his question had her nodding her head and bouncing about where she sat with new found enthusiasm. That couldn't have been too comfy for him. "Mhm!--Well, I wouldn't be birthing it, I'd be hatching from an egg. Derf's got fireseeds to help us keep it nice and toasty and my sister's got a cousin who works at a Dragon Reserve--hatchery division, what're the odds????"

"I just need to figure how to mix it with regular lizard DNA so it doesn't grow too big and 'dangerous'."

Also, how cool was Rooney for going around and busting Castle crime? He was like...the Hogwarts version of an Auror, which kinda made him all the more cool. "Did you find out where they were going? My friend Clarissa says sometimes older kids sneak out to do experiments, but she also said they're the kind they won't let me join. I didn't get it," Because why withhold knowledge when they could learn together? "but she said we could do our own experiments."
Miss Jessa Cambridge was most definitely a peculiar one, but Rooney couldn't fault her interest levels and the drive to come through with the research to enhance her learning. This Ravenclaw was proud of that Ravenclaw and expected only good things in her future. Perhaps she would one day stand in his team when he ran for Minister. Perhaps she would one day run for Minister herself. Perhaps she would even be receive a Damehood in the Muggle world from the Royal family for one of her discoveries. The brain of a Ravenclaw was one of the most magnificent things, especially when you were able to watch it develop over the years - he was only slightly sad that he wouldn't witness the rest of Jessa's growth as a thinker.

"Have you talked this over with the necessary professors? Care of Magical Creatures? Hirsch, if you're going to have it with you in the common room? Hawthorne, if it's in the castle? Miss Jessa, must you do everything on such a grand scale?" They didn't need a dragon loose in the castle so soon after a monster, honestly. And he most certainly didn't want to have to step up and do something to ruin the fun for this younger student. She reminded him of Brinlee, had Brinlee been able to put two thoughts together in a literal sense and not an insult.

With a laugh, he gave her a nudge with his elbow. "No experiments or sneaking out after curfew, Cambridge. I'll have you put in detention. A week for every second past curfew." A mere minute would put her in detention well into her fifth year.

"Okay, tell me what you've learned from your book so far."

It wasn't going well; the many people and places and dates involved were just a blur in her mind, and she was struggling to sift through all the relevant parts. How did this stuff come so easily to her brother?

She had a few more days to work on it, but really didn't wanted to waste her weekend staring at this. She had better things to be doing; people to hang out with. But for tonight, she was done. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, and stretched as she lent back against the sofa.

Jessa's topic of conversation now piqued her interest, although she didn't say anything just yet. A little dragon, huh? Sounded pretty awesome.
Rooney wasn't oblivious to the others in the common room, he was tired..yes. He raised a hand when he noticed Sam, giving her a wave and a friendly smile, that he hoped suggested that she was welcome to join he and Jessa over here if she wanted. There was room for all over on this rug with Jessa's crazy dragon plans.
