❝ LA HISTORIA REAL ❞ ✘ ✘ ✘
[history stuff & things] ..... [updating] Quote: (title: you start and end in darkness.)
& ,
sure-footed and free, you conquer every obstacle.
arrogance becomes your achilles heel;
and when you fall—
no one is there to catch you.
✘ SPOILER!!: parte uno.
unrelenting in your curiosity, you mark your entire home as yours. walls, corridors, doors, chairs—nothing is out of your reach. at two years old, you understand the difference between yes and no and stop doing that, thea. you spend mornings chasing after your brothers—chubby-legged but determined. they seem too eager to leave you behind, so you run and run and run. they elude you, leave you alone on the opposite end of your home. through your frustration you discover that if you cry hard enough you can get just about anything you want.
you don't remember when, but you develop an absurd curiosity and (ir)rational fear of the dark. as soon as your mother finishes the last plait in your hair, she kisses the top of your forehead - a little magic to keep you safe, she says - and the door closes. the dark begins its carefully crafted descent. it suffocates you. you begin to choke, and you try your best to ignore the deafening silence. the nothingness is eerie, and you can't stand it. rolled tightly into a small ball, you chant to yourself in soft whispers. in order to compete with you, the night whispers back. loudly. you don't know what to make of it - is this all a terrible, unshakable nightmare? - so you attempt to ignore them. you fail. over and over and over and over. fatigue overwhelms you, and it only feels like you've slept for a few moments before being awoken by your father.
(this is how your slow descent into madness begins.)
if the dark circles under your eyes weren't an indicator of the night you had, your inability to walk straight was. not quite sprinting, your father carries you out of your room and straight to your mother.
they speak in hushed tones that soon elevate. light footsteps remind your parents to lower their voices, however a yawning declan comes into view holding a disgruntled levi's hand. they take in the scene, and it's declan who says don't worry, thea. you have us. you nod - big, dramatic motions - and you feel an instant sense of relief.
(this, unfortunately, does not last.)
✘
you learn to carve candles for protection and take to praying to deities that you don't think can hear you.
✘
(some nights, you awake and find yourself at the foot of the stairs.)
(unnerving. you never figure out how or why.)
(title: you drift on an endless sea of hopelessness.)
& ,
wild-eyed and inquisitive,
you live your life in extremes.
nothing is out of your reach—
and like the sea, you are daunting.
✘ SPOILER!!: parte dos.
summer slaps you in the face - hot, sticky, and invigorating. you embrace the change in temperature with a grin, ready to challenge any and every thing that comes your way. as per your parents' request, you do not venture into the city. when you ask why, they give you looks - ones that put a chill in you, something you can't shake no matter how many hot baths you take.
eager to relive her glory days, your mother takes to grooming you and your brothers to be fit and health-conscious. the hope that her children will someday come to appreciate and play quidditch is evident all around her eyes, in the way she carefully constructs their work out routines, and in how she emphasizes the importance of her legacy carrying on.
(it doesn't work. you - and your brothers as well - fight back hard.)
(later, when you would reflect, you would regret being so obstinate on the matter.)
time blurs, but you cling to the important moments of your childhood. you simultaneously become an unwilling partner in your brothers' schemes while also finding ways to expose their misdeeds to your parents. this, says a vexed levi, is so typical of you.
you don't care - you want to shout it at him, but the words lodge themselves deep in your throat, unable to come out. instead, you begin a mutually acknowledged war of wits with him. this goes on and on and on. every day, every night.
at some point, you forget why you fuss at each other in the first place, and it becomes your version of normalcy.
✘
(you learn quickly not to test declan's patience.)
✘
broken bones, scraped knees. muddy, clumsy hands - copper-colored eyes burn through your skin. this, you think, this is what death must feel like.
(again you would reflect - you would understand the significance of this moment and vow never to let it happen again.)
✘ you don't own my heart, you say dramatically one breezy afternoon. i have things to do, i don't have time for nonsense.
(what she says will stay with you for much longer than you'd care to admit: go - when summer ends, i'll forget all about you.)
✘
do your hands still shake when the sun goes down? do you still - even after being reassured by declan, even after having levi point out the improbabilities of the darkness coming to life, even after your parents tuck you into bed three times - chant meaningless prayers, voice barely above a whisper, as you carve into another candle?
what will become of you - the one who lives in fear of the unknown, who sleep eludes night after night after night - and who will you become?
(title: growth is continuous, but your roots are slowly rotting.)
& ,
with false bravado, you are an enigma;
steadfast in your convictions, you
push and push until you can't push anymore.
as fate would have it, your mask slowly slips.
✘ SPOILER!!: parte tres.
a void slowly creeps through you. being the youngest, you find it difficult to simply wait your turn. hogwarts, it seems, is a vibrant place of wonders. your brothers send letters with brief updates on their academic lives - they promise you that you will fit in right away.
(you want to believe them, but doubt settles and you choose to wait and see for yourself.)
✘
before you realize, you have immersed yourself in language learning. it becomes an obsessive religious experience. you don't know how far you'll get, but you know that if you stop now you'll feel incomplete.
✘
(school, it seems, is too big, too loud, too crowded - the uniforms continue to be an offense that you have yet to recover from.)
it all boils down to how you choose to survive the term.
your brothers are liars.
(you begin to add their transgressions to a tightly bound, leather journal that you carry with you everywhere. it becomes a running joke, but you are entirely serious in your mission. observe, react, report. repeat as many times as it takes. this becomes your mantra when dealing with them.)
✘
you remind yourself that your dorm mates do not know the first thing about personal space. as a means of protection, you stay away and keep to yourself.
