If she thought HE was obsessed with his hair, she should meet some of the No-Maj kids who lived around him. Especially the older ones. Now THEY were obsessed with their hair. "No, I'm not...other people are though," he said with a shrug. Yeah, he was gossiped about. No big deal.

"I'm Kane, by the way," he added, smiling at her in a friendly manner. Now that he'd probably scared the daylights out of her with all his hair talk...
