Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight

There was so much happening around Abey; he could hear all manner of voices that he recognised, and a few that he didn't, and were he paying close enough attention he may have realised that even the poltergeists were there. But the only thing he was focusing on was holding on tightly to Rula, and listening out for the monster, though part of him was convinced he could hear that same low growling sound but actually he couldn't possibly because nobody was screaming and throwing spells around to fight it off. Not as far as he could tell, anyway. Even so, Abey was still reluctant to open his eyes. He held onto Rula and listened to her words and her assurances that everything was going to be okay and tried so very very very hard to believe them.

From somewhere close by, over the general racket, Abey heard someone else speaking directly to him. It was a moment before it really registered that he knew the voice, and that the voice actually belonged to Kane actually. Abey didn't move or turn around or look or let go of Rula, but he did focus on Kane's voice.

Safe now. Back at Hogwarts. Yes. Nothing bad really lasted at Hogwarts, Abey knew that. Everything always got fixed in the end. Even so, Abey couldn't help but picture those pointed, deadly teeth, inching closer to his face. It was like he could still smell the monster. And actually, even though the bad thing was over, it still... didn't feel very much at all like it was fixed actually.

He huddled closer to Rula - if that was possible - and tried repeating both hers and Kane's words out loud to himself. It didn't really work; he just ended up speaking a bunch of nonsense along with his crying, so Abey tried to repeat the words in his head instead actually. But, as much as he wanted to look and see the real Hogwarts and reassure himself of where he was... he just... couldn't. He couldn't look, he couldn't bring himself to check, just in case it was all a lie and he really wasn't actually safe. He didn't feel safe. Was that bad? Was that wrong? It felt wrong.

Suddenly, Rula was talking again - to Abey - and saying something about that he had to drink something and that Healer Reed had said so. Abey trusted Healer Man Reed actually, and he knew that anything he gave him was likely to make him feel better, and of course he trusted Rula too. But to take whatever potion it was, he'd have to look at it, which meant opening his eyes, which he absolutely did not want to do - not ever again if he could help it actually. So, though he felt like actually he really did want to take the potion, he ended up shaking his head and sobbing just a little bit harder.

One big problem, though, was that Abey knew that, sooner or later, they would try and separate him from Rula. But actually he never wanted to be separated from her again, or any of his family actually. And actually he also never wanted to be on his own or away from a proper grown up with or wizard ever again, just by the way.

It was so loud, and still so much was happening, and it was all just so confusing. Words were flying around about poltergeists and portals and monsters but in all the chaos everything felt all confused and mixed up to Abey's ears, like how when he looked at writing and it went all wobbly, but this time it all sounded wobbly. The only thing that made ANY sense to Abey was the sudden LOUD yelling of his name, and from a voice he would recognise anywhere.

Derf. Derf was nearby and Abey remembered once again that he WOULD see his friend again, like he would see all of his friends, like he would see all of his family (if he ever uncovered his face, of course).

Just the thought of that had Abey dissolving into yet another wave of tears, but whether they were of relief or more to do with the shock of the situation or of the fear that he might still end up monster food, he didn't know and he didn't care. He just sobbed. Loudly. And all over Rula. Actually.
