The Headmistress in the staff table in the Great Hall, receiving a Howler from Matt yelling at her about Daisy and an award.
Oh no. "Promise me you won't do that." Daisy said quite seriously. She had no trouble making a fool of herself but she'd rather not get in trouble over a silly offhand comment. Hawthorne definitely looked like someone who did not take a joke lightly. Still, he seemed really into the idea so she sighed. "I mean, send a Howler to the Headmistress if you want to, but don't get me involved." And as much as she tried to deny it, as long as it didn't involve her, it did sound pretty funny.
Was that selfish of her?
Right. Yes. Of course he knew it was just their names. Daisy grimaced a bit at that and let out a chuckle. How would he know her parents had played there, eh? She raised one eyebrow in his direction before nodding. "They did. Well, Dad more than Mum." Honestly, Daisy still didn't fully believe that her Mum had been part of the Quidditch team for a term. It made no sense. It wasn't that she was bad, it was just that she did not enjoy it. She turned back to Matt. "They were both Prefects. Slytherin." And if there was a hint of pride in her voice -- well, it was because she was proud.
Oh. Her birthday. Daisy chuckled lightly at the questions rolling out of Matt's mouth. At least he was being thorough. "No, not today." Not that he was late by many days, anyway. "Belated, but thank you anyway." She told him with a wide grin in his direction. After all, it was decidedly not his fault that he hadn't known her birthday.
What was his fault, though, was how confused she was at the moment, because without the kiss that would've not happened. She risked one peek at him from the corner of her eye but the grin on his lips made her feel slightly uneasy for some reason. Why had he done that? Here, of all places?? Frustrated at the fact that one of her favourites spots now had awkwardness written all over it, she turned her back on Matt and ran one hand through her hair. Should she run? Her mind went to Noelle and the story of her second kiss and Daisy could've almost laughed. Yes, maybe running away would work.
Except Matt spoke again and, without a second thought, Daisy turned around once more and found herself staring at him. Again. Girlfriend? "No. No, no, no ... I am not your girlfriend." See the enthusiasm with which she was shaking her head? Definitely not his girlfriend. Why did he think that? Was it because of the date? Nervously, she started looking down at her shoes, only so she wouldn't have to look at him. "And ... I think that was a mistake." Sorry. Her question made him laaauughh even more. "Do you think I'm THAT reckless?" HAHA! How hilarious! To be honest, Matt wouldn't really put that past him, but only in extreme circumstances. He did not want his wand broken and being kicked out of Hogwarts. No way was he ever going to live like his Muggle father, thanks! And to him sending the Headmistress a howler but not getting Daisy involved... "Maybe one day." He said with a grin. One could never know.
Oh boy, both her parents had been prefects! "Impressive! I don't reckon they got in too much trouble then." Matt said, but then he thought for a bit. Chewie was a prefect and he wasn't the type to necessarily keep away from trouble so... maybe being a prefect didn't always mean you were the perfect student. Though Chewie could totally be a teacher's pet! "Sounds like a lot of responsibility. No, thanks!" He added truthfully.
NOT her birthday. Noted. Not that he'd remember the actual date, but yeah. For that year, he was late. "I won't even bother asking the right day because I'll forget." He informed her. The only birthday he could ever remember was his own. And maybe Ollie's, but that was only because his little brother reminded the entire universe his birthday was coming up about a month prior to the date.
Anyhow, he should've seen it coming. He had to stop himself from sighing and rolling his eyes when Daisy turned around. Matt prouded himself in not being hurt easily, and truth be told, he wasn't too sure if he was hurt or simply annoyed. Why couldn't everrrrrryone be straightforward like him? Life would be so much easier.
A mistake? "Wha!?" How could she say that? Okay, reason here, Matt. REASON! "Daisy, we've been on a date and we had loads of fun, didn't we?" She couldn't deny that and he knew itttt for a fact! "Besides, I just told you I like you and you said you liked me too." Literally, just a few minutes prior to this conversation now. Surely her memory wasn't as bad as his? And even if it were, HE remembered it very well, alright, and he knew she did too! Again, she couldn't deny that. "But fine, fiiinnneeeeeee. I know I can be um..." What was the word he was looking for? "Blunt? Straight to the point?" Impulsive? A little irrational? A bit crazy? Yeah, all that, but STILL. "But doesn't that just make things more simple? I mean, we don't have to beat around the bush! We like each other, why don't you want to be my girlfriend?"
Wait, he hadn't even ASKED. Duh. "I mean, do you want to be my girlfriend?" There was the question then, if that was important to her?
?? Was that what she was expecting? Matt literally had absolutely no clue what she wanted to happen before they were official.
WHY COULDN'T LIFE BE AS EASY AS HE MADE IT TO BE? If it were up to Matt, everything would be super easy and everyone would know what the other person expected and it would all be wonderful and easy.
