Simon wasn't moving with much urgency yet, which curiously meant that Abey was not so quick to jump to his dramatics actually. Being only twelve years old, he was not yet at all self-aware as to a lot of his actions, and he was especially oblivious as to WHY he did a lot of the things he did. Or why he didn't do a lot of the things that he didn't. BUT THE POINT WAS ACTUALLY, that he was not yet running down the corridors screaming that the end was nigh, even though - he thought to himself - it probably was.
"Uhh... maybe?" Abey replied, looking in the same direction and quickly catching on to his friend's train of thought without really even needing to ask. He turned his attention back to Simon again. "Don't worry, I'll come with you all of downstairs actually and if the creature arrives I'll PUNCH IT IN TH-"
Wait. Abey quickly broke off when he heard approaching footsteps, because WHAT IF IT WAS THE CREATURE?! Or, perhaps worse, what if it was Rula or Juni or Olivia-With-The-Beautiful-Soul-Phillips, about to hear Abey talk about punching things in the face. Because that would be bad even if the reality of the situation was that if Abey saw a scary creature, he'd probably run screaming in the opposite direction rather than try to take it on in combat.
But actually it was actually two professors actually. Two professors that Abey hadn't had a WHOLE lot of interactions with because he had accidentally-on-purpose skipped a lot of their classes for reasons. Luckily for him, though, this didn't seem like the appropriate time to get called up on it. What luck!
When he noticed them, Abey immediately shot back up to his feet, and also held out a hand for Si to get up too, because Simon - he knew - was not exactly quick and agile. But it sounded ALMOST like they were being reprimanded for not moving yet, and Abey - with his first year priorities - was quick to defend them both.
"We only just heard, Professors! We were just about to go when you showed up actually!" Which was actually the complete and actual truth actually, though Abey still intended to make sure Simon got all the way back to his own common room, on account of Simon being so bad at breathing. Then he might have an opportunity to find his cousins, but best not to say either of those intentions out loud.
And actually, actually he was actually really quite scared right now, and his heart was going BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM in his chest, and he felt so anxious he wanted to throw up, but it was the kind of scared and anxious that made him KEEP RUNNING ON ADRENALINE and look after his friends and family and not actually completely freak out. Apparently, dealing with monsters was a lot less scary than dealing with going to difficult classes.
