His head was pounding. He felt ground underneath his feet but could barely register where he was. He felt surreal. The smell of vomit was in his nostrils as he gazed down at his upturned hands. Declan wasn't sure if he was here or not but his sister's screaming sounded real enough.

Levi was near. He could feel him and sort of see him but he was still too out of it to concentrate properly. The image of a scarab flashed through his mind.

"Don't!" he said loudly and stretched out an arm towards the yelling. "Kill. The scarab."

Declan took the water Levi offered and drank slowly, not trying to make himself puke again.

"I'm fine," Declan drawled standing up straight and wiping at a corner of his mouth with the back of one hand. "This isn't my first time." Except, he wasn't really fine but his Mum didn't raise a punk.
