The feeling of the chilly wind on her hair was priceless and Kitty would probably agree with her. Oh. Oh, right.
Daisy hadn't yet realised, of course, that Rooney's disappearance meant that Kitty would have double the duties. "I'm sorry, that must suck for you." She kicked at the floor for a minute before moving towards her bag and crouching down. "For all of you, actually." She wasn't even sure if she meant the Ravenclaw House or the Prefects, at this point. She rummaged around in her bag for a while before pulling out a bag of chocolate frogs. "It must be really hard for the Ravenclaws ... to have their Prefect ... not here." She finished lamely, not really knowing how to word it.
Snatched, taken, kidnapped, gone.
That all sounded awful and she shook her head to clear her thoughts and moved closer to the girl, the bag with the chocolate candy held up her way. "And I do appreciate all that you guys are doing. I mean, it must be exhausting.." Daisy eyed the bags under Kitty's eyes and tilted her head, offering the girl a small smile. "I might not like the idea of having an escort to the bathroom but .. it does make me feel safer." Until she remembered that a Prefect had been taken too, so where they really any safer? Right, best to avoid those thoughts too.
All of a sudden, there were a lot of thoughts to avoid.
The girl's question did throw her off for a second and Daisy looked at her curiously. Was she okay? Like, generally? "I'm fine. Bit stressed out because of the exams but ..." She shrugged and opened her arm, trying to encompass everything that was happening at Hogwarts with one movement. ".. it all seems a bit meaningless now." People were gone and as far as she could see, all they were doing as wait around for them to miraculously come back. "You? How are you holding up?" Except for, you know, being overworked. Kitty looked at Daisy and considered whether or not she should tell her how she really felt. For a moment she thought she'd just tell her that she was generally okay and that things were going to be okay. And in reality she felt terrible and worried for Rooney and the others all the time. But she didn't want to make Daisy worried, or at least any more worried than she already was.
But Daisy had come out here on her own to get away from everything, and Kitty had already begun talking. She didn't want to lie. She hated lying.
Moving over to the edge of the balcony, she placed her arms on the railing and leaned on them, gazing out at the setting sun. "I think I'm supposed to say that I'm okay, since I'm a prefect and all. But I'm not going to lie. Of how many times I've had to accompany students to the bathrooms, I've MEMORIZED some of the patterns the dirt makes on the floor." She laughed, though she didn't really find it that funny. "And my legs have been hurting for the past few days of all the walking. And I'm scared for the students who vanished, and for all of us. Rooney was my friend, and you're right, it sucks for all of us Ravenclaws that he's not here. You must miss Carlton terribly. Were you friends?"
She turned and smiled ruefully at Daisy. "Prefects are supposed to be stable, but I'm not stable at all. Sorry if I made you feel worse. We're not sure if the others are okay, but we have to hope that they are. Things will be good again." |
