Carlton's eyes flickered in panic between all the people. Students, teachers, strange people he'd never met before. Too much. It was too much. He didn't react when professor Myers cleaned his face. He just stood, arms still outstretched holding a shaking wand. He wouldn't lower his wand until someone told him it was safe. And the arrival of more people didn't assure him of that.
Then someone took his wand out of his hands and Carlton looked up at Rooney. What was he supposed to do with his hands? He lowered his arms and stood silent next to Rooney, watching how Henry got out of the portal as well. Both Henry and Rooney were safe. Carlton stood, almost backed in a corner by all the people, but felt a hundred times better with Rooney by his side.

His bedside manner stunk, he was awkward even with adults, and he was worse with children.
Then as soon as professor Myers left his side to tend to Henry, a man with a weird accent crouched down in front of him.
No.
Carlton immediately stumbled backwards, away from the stranger as Roo stepped out in front of him.
He had a sudden urge to just flee from the whole situation. He didn't want to be there in the middle of the crowd, stared at like an animal at the zoo. None of the conversations that went on around him registered at all, he didn't hear any of it. He just wanted to go home.
