Gaston's smile vanished upon hearing the reason for Rose's sadness. It broke his heart to know something from his past made her feel this way; he didn't like that at all! "Oh, Rose, please don't be sad... not because of me," he whispered, looking at her with pleading eyes. Sure it had hurt at the time, but it worked out better than he ever could've imagined! "It's all behind me now. I wouldn't go back and change a thing, even if I could, because it led me to you." He smiled, hoping it would make her smile back at him.

He saw her beaming at him as he kissed her hand, and he was glad she seemed happier now. But what she said next made him blink in surprise. He didn't think it was even possible for him to make anyone as happy as she made him! He held her a little tighter as she snuggled into him, at a loss for words. He was afraid that he'd laugh or cry - or Merlin forbid, both - if he tried to speak! Suddenly Rose's question jerked him out of his thoughts. "it is," he said, nodding slightly, "because you gave it to me." He laughed a little as he added, "Well, your hard work paid off! It's better than perfect!"
