Rosalyn could tell how surprised Gaston was given his reaction to the pet name, and it made her sad. Even though he knew she loved him a lot, it was hard for him because no one before her had been good to him. Well, he never needed worry about that again because she would never ever leave him. The sadness didn't last long, however, with the lovely gifts he gave her. Rosalyn knew how happy it made him to give her stuff, and on top of loving the romance of it, she mostly just liked seeing him so happy. "Oh, Gaston! It's so perfect!" she said as she took her rose that had been dipped in gold. "I absolutely love it!" Only he would think of such a wonderful thing to give her. "I will love you forever too," she whispered back. It was so very true and she gave his hand an affectionate squeeze.
Knowing that he would be shocked at the gift, she waited eagerly as he opened it. His reaction was perfect and made her happy because it had pleased him. "I thought it was perfect for you," she said before kissing him back.
Happy, she waited for their food and drink to arrive.
Gaston thought he saw a slight tinge of sadness in his love's eyes. His smile faded a little, and he looked at her with concern.
"Are you sad, ma belle Rose?" he asked. He'd been teaching her French the past couple of months, so hopefully she knew he just called her his beautiful rose. He gave her hand an encouraging squeeze. He didn't like seeing her sad, especially not on a happy occasion like today! He hadn't upset her, had he?
That worry went away when he saw Rose's reaction to her gold rose. Seeing his love happy was the best Valentine's present he could ever have! He didn't think it was possible to be any happier than he already was, but when Rose told him she'd love him forever, he thought his heart would burst.
"Oh, Rose, you have no idea how happy you've made me," he said. He took her hand in both of his own and gave it a little kiss.
Gaston laughed as he admired his new watch. Was there a word that meant better than perfect? Because that was the word he'd use to describe Rose's gift! "It's the best gift anyone's ever given me!" he gushed.
"Now whenever I check the time, I'll be reminded of my Rose..." He put an arm around her, keeping a watchful eye out for the shopkeeper. He should be back with their order any minute!
