Before attending Hogwarts, Abey did not attend any other school, though his parents - more specifically his mother - ensured that he would be appropriately educated in preparation for Hogwarts. He was raised bilingual, speaking both English and Arabic. Abey can speak and understand both of these fluently, but has much more trouble with reading and writing in both languages. Abey is dyslexic, but neither he nor his family are aware of this, though they are aware that he is behind others of his age group when it comes to reading and writing.

Abey likes to focus his time instead on practical activities, particularly art. He loves to paint, and is particularly taken with depicting how he sees the sky. He has started producing artwork of a slightly more abstract nature which are hugely colourful, claiming they are images of how he sees the world.

Though he did not attend school before Hogwarts, Abey did attend a local muggle drama club over the last year before he started at Hogwarts, because of his interest in dramatics and his creative energy, and to boost his confidence. As well as acting, he also developed a huge interest in singing and music. Having received a guitar for his eleventh birthday, he managed to secure himself some guitar lessons from friend of the family, West Odessa, though he is a little scatterbrained when it comes to remembering to practice. Generally speaking, Abey's energy and focus on any of his hobbies tends to come in random spikes, making it practically impossible for him to truly master any of his talents or hobbies.

Abey is defined by the fact that he wears his emotions very openly, never having had much reason to hide them before. The baby of his immediate family - and one of the youngest of his extended family - he is doted on by many of his older relatives, particularly his mother, and the nickname 'Baby Abey' seems to have stuck. Abey does not have much of a relationship with his father in the way that his older siblings had, and rarely gets to see him as he is always working. As such, he is much closer to his mother than to anyone else.

Though he is outgoing and confident around his family and friends, Abey tends to be very shy around people he doesn't know very well. In recent years, he has started to overcome his shyness by acting instead as different characters or other people, and occasionally embellishing the truth (or outright lying). He has a flair for dramatics, especially around his family, as well as a tendency to wander off unannounced, and is the Botros grandchild perhaps most likely to find himself in trouble when his imagination runs away with him or when he acts on impulse, but he nevertheless has a soft heart and a gentle temperament. If caught off guard or in an anxious moment, Abey is more likely to stay quiet and keep to himself, or seek solace in a family member, should one be close by.

Abey is most at ease around his family, as he never feels as though he has to put on an act to be accepted by them. Traditionally in Egypt, family loyalty is incredibly important, and Abey has always found this comforting. His family are his security blanket and safety net, and he knows he can always rely on them. Likewise, he is fiercely loyal to his family, and puts them before everything else. However, being a younger member of such a big family, with many successful members and a lot to live up to, can have its drawbacks. Abey often feels under immense pressure to live up to the family name, and especially to prove himself worthy of the name 'Abraham Botros'. He desperately wants to prove himself, and wants to be the best at something to show his family he is worthy of being part of them, to bring even more honour to the family name, and to prove himself to his father, with whom his relationship is currently practically non-existent. Perhaps his biggest fear is that he might disgrace his family in an unforgivable manner.

Because of this, Abey has incredibly high expectations for himself. He is a perfectionist, but when he inevitably cannot surpass his own impossibly high standards, he becomes upset, demoralised, and anxious. He also has a tendency of starting projects and picking up hobbies, only to quickly abandon them or forget about them once he realises he isn't instantly perfect. Luckily, Abey is very receptive to encouragement and the support of his family and friends, and can usually be spurred on, but he does have the tendency of not trying at all at things he knows he cannot do, for fear of failing. As he has grown older, anxiety has become more of a problem for Abey, and though he uses his love of acting and his creativity to push past his shyness and general anxieties, he does suffer from panic attacks that strike out of nowhere, which first arose shortly after the time that his grandfather became ill.

Overall, Abey tends to be a happy-go-lucky boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. He is fiercely loyal to his family, and loves spending time with all of them, whether dressing up with his younger cousins, Alanna and Aaron, gossiping with Junia, trailing after Rula and Eureka, or being the centre of attention with Hassan and Lilian. As per Egyptian custom, he is very respectful to the older members of his family and believes that family is the most important thing in the world.

Born on 12th April 2080, in Alexandria, Egypt, Abey was the unexpected third and youngest child of Owen and Nora Botros. He has a brother, Hassan, and sister, Lilian, who are both over ten years older than him. The pureblood Botros family goes back for generations, known for producing Hufflepuff wizards and Slytherin witches - two exceptions being Abey's sister Lilian, who was a Ravenclaw, and his cousin Eureka, who was a Hufflepuff. Abey's great-grandfather, another Abraham, fought and played a significant role in the 1997 wizarding war when he helped to hide muggle-born witches and wizards.

Abey has lived with his parents in the family mansion in Egypt since he was born, and has lived a very privileged life. Every summer, at his grandfather's insistence, the family would gather in the Alexandria mansion and spend the entire summer together, a tradition Abey's own father now continues to insist upon. Some of Abey's earliest memories are of running or flying around the grounds and the house in Egypt, playing games with his cousins and siblings. He showed his first signs of magical ability as a toddler, when he would change his toys into different colours, and continues to display accidental magic from time to time when he is particularly upset.

Though he is close to his siblings, Abey also grew up spending a lot of time with his cousins, due partly to being closer to them in age, and partly because of the Egyptian custom of loyalty and togetherness with the extended, as well as immediate, family. Due to family connections, Abey also personally knows a number of famous wizards and witches, including British ex-Minister Sherman Clark, Quidditch player and wrockstar West Odessa (who gives him guitar lessons), and Quidditch player Alice Odessa, all of whom have known him since birth. Abey's own brother is a professional Quidditch player for the Montrose Magpies, and also plays for the Egyptian national Quidditch team. Because these people have always been a part of his life, Abey has never considered these connections to be all that out of the ordinary.

Abey's paternal grandfather was Abraham Botros Sr., previous Ancient Runes Professor, Hufflepuff Head of House, and Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Like the other Botros (and Russ) grandchildren, Abey looked up to his grandfather as a hero, and he always wanted nothing more than to prove himself to him. Unfortunately, in 2088, when Abey was eight years old, a curse-breaking accident put Abraham Sr. in the hospital, triggering memory loss and episodes of confusion. Abey and the younger members of the family were permitted to visit their grandfather in the hospital from time to time, though not often, as Abraham Sr. would often have trouble remembering them, which was upsetting for all involved.

In the summer of 2090, when Abey was ten years old, his grandfather revealed to him and his siblings during a visit to his St. Mungo's room that he would be returning home to the Alexandria mansion that day. Abey was elated, confident in the belief that his Grandfather must be well enough to come home again. Hassan and Lilian - and the Clarks, who had also come to visit - had some reservations, but Abraham Sr., stubborn and determined, did indeed return home that day. Later that night, back in Alexandria, Abraham Botros Sr. passed away surrounded by family and friends. His death had a huge impact on the surviving members of the family.

Less than a year later, the night before his eleventh birthday, Abey was visited in his dream by a Dream Messenger who left him a dream token, telling him he had gained entrance to the African magical school, Uagadou School of Magic. Upon waking, and discovering it had not just been a dream, Abey was utterly distraught. He begged his mother to get him into Hogwarts instead, fearful that he would end up different from his family, or separated from them. His mother promised that she and his father would do their best to transfer him, but the tears were for nothing, as later that day an exhausted barn owl arrived bearing Abey's Hogwarts letter, having simply taken slightly longer to reach the Egyptian dwelling. Despair quickly turned to elation, and Abey was soon celebrating that he would soon be joining his cousins, Rula and Junia, at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
