Okay. This was it. Today was the day.

The DAY.

THE. DAY.

Abey had been so very excited for this day to come, counting down the weeks, days, hours, minutes until he finally got to duel in Duelling Club, as though it was his birthday or something (it wasn't his actual birthday though actually, that wasn't until April). He'd been practicing his spells specially and, the night before, when he was trying to settle down enough to sleep, had gone through as many possible duelling techniques as he could think of, or that he could remember from paying attention to what others showed or told him. He was READY.

....... Maybe actually. Because... there were stands; he had forgotten about that. And people were probably watching, but at least Abey couldn't be distracted by them or anything, thanks to the measures taken by Hirsch.

Before the duel had started, Abey had stayed back, bouncing on his toes and shaking out his arms because of all the nervous energy, and trying to stop feeling so sick. He had been looking FORWARD to this after all, but then everything he looked forward to also made him so scared and anxious that his chest started to feel funny and his tummy started to do flips. But now it was time, which was good, because waiting around made it worse, but DOING THE THING would make it better, because then the thing would be done. Waiting was the most awfullest thing ever actually.

Abey held his wand in his left hand, considering things, then swapped it across to his right, to test if that felt better today. After a moment, he swapped it back to his left hand, and gave a nod. Now he was ready.

With bundles of that Gryffindor energy (or first year energy) ((or both)) Abey bounded forward into the duelling arena, with a smile in the direction of Professor Hirsch, and then across at his opponent, Carlton. Then he BOWED, because, you know, that was duelling etiquette actually, and now it was clear that it was TIIIIIIIIIME.

Okay, so even though Abey knew that it was PROBABLY smartest to start off small and see what his duelling opponent was capable of, he was actually also a Gryffindor (but would never admit it) so he was going ALL IN STRAIGHT AWAY AND TAKING RISKS AND YEAHHHHHHH!

"Periculum!" Abey cast HOPEFULLY all of a sudden so that it was a surprise or something, and then, once he had sent a load of red sparks Carlton's way, he quickly followed it up with. "Tarantallegra!" Hopefully hopefully hopefully the sparks had been enough of a distraction - even if they hadn't hit their target - that his second spell had been all sneaky sneaky and sneaked it's way in.

And then. AND THEN - and this one was a bit of a gamble actually, because sometimes this spell worked for Abey and sometimes it didn't and sometimes he just didn't KNOW because it was hard to find someone willing to practice it with him in their free time - AND THENNNNN he tried his luck at a Trip Jinx, because THREE was a magic number, so three spells was how he wanted to start. He bounced around, prepared for a counterattack. SO PREPARED.
