But he straightened intentionally to his full height as she finally walked away. He had every mean thought that he possibly could have swimming around his head, including that she had in no way shown any sort of leadership skills and that her getting all up in Kitty's grill in the corridor was no better than Kitty shouting at Katy in class.
None of the three of them could say anything about being an example. One of them berated their peers in the corridor, another was an absolute idiot and didn't think before she talked and then he just yelled at Professors in their own classrooms.
But he was glad that the Head Girl had gone, so that he could whip around and frown at his co-prefect. "Get rid of the hair and the glasses, you look like an absolute idiot." Kitty didn't comment on Nat's instructions to apologize to Katy, not wanting to tempt her to stay. Instead she watched as she and Rooney exchanged words on Olivia. Her eyes followed Nat as she walked away, returning to Rooney only when she had vanished from sight.
And immediately Rooney was barking orders. Great. Normally, she would have been greatly annoyed, but he HAD just rescued her from possibly being punched by the head girl. She was tired of fighting. "Fine, if it bothers you that much," she muttered, quickly removing her glasses and stuffing them in her robe pockets. Her hair, on the other hand, she left alone. It wasn't a wig, so the only way (aside from cutting it off) that she could remove it would be to cast a charm, and she wasn't in the mood for casting spells. If her hair bothered Rooney so much then he could change it back for her.
Her eyes met Rooney's before quickly glancing away. "Before you begin, you need to know I've already been punished. Rosalyn called me to her office right after class. And now our dear Head Girl is threatening to hex me so badly I get disfigured. I bet she's going back to her common room to tell all the Slytherins about what an evil monster I am, and now they'll all going to hate me. But I suppose you're going to tell me I was stupid for shouting, or that I'm a big disappointment to you, right?"
The only other person she had ever played the pity card on was her mom, but now it seemed appropriate to try it with Rooney. And honestly, it felt to Kitty like everyone was being unfair to her about this entire thing. |
