Natalia's defense of Salathar Slytherin was infuriating, but she struggled to keep her voice calm when she answered. "You say we can't judge him since we weren't there, but then that would also mean we can't judge Voldemort because we weren't there either. If we can't trust what the history books say about Salathar, then I could easily counter and say that we don't know if he founded Hogwarts at all, or if any of the founders even existed. But in class I even said that I was backing off calling for his portrait to be removed, and that was when you and Katherine jumped on me." And she wanted to say that Katherine had insulted her first, but Nat's next words distracted her.
"What do you mean, I started the threat?! That's crazy! I never threatened anyone, and I even said none of my criticism applied to people in the room. So no, you wouldn't be defending your housemates by attacking me. And Katherine is only one year younger than I am, while I am TWO years younger than you." And she honestly did not know what Nat meant when she asked if she would go down in the chamber with Slytherins. Was that a threat, or was she just asking if Kitty thought they would try to kill her if they were alone?
But before she could ask what that meant, Rooney entered the corridor and tried to break up the fight. In a way this was a relief, as Kitty didn't trust that Nat wouldn't try to hex her if they were alone. A lecture from Rooney seemed a lot safer than threats from Nat. "I'm ready for your lecture," she told him, eyes flicking back and forth from behind her glasses from Nat to Rooney. |
