Yes...YES! Bumi was coming!
Waiting just long enough for the dog to catch a proper sniff of the treat, Derf timidly approached one of the death trees (BECAUSE IT COULD BE A FLESH EATER FOR ALL HE KNEW) and quickly tossed the treat within the branches. "OH NOOOOOO," he lamented dramatically to the dog. "It went in there! Better...fetch it...and bring it to me!"
Because dogs like fetching sticks...and really...a tree was just a big stick when one thought about it...so therefore..Bumi could play a one sided game of fetch with the first year. So...while Bumi was busy getting his grip on the tree, the Hufflepuff grabbed his snow tube and then looked over his shoulder at the dog who was NOT disappointing.
Tip of the miniature pine tree between its teeth, the massive work dog dragged it through the snow with a bit of a growl and violent shake every now and then towards the first year who sat waiting in his snow tube. "Good job, Bumi!" he praised, drawing from his pocket another treat to use as leverage.
Just as the dog was close enough that the first year could smell the pine (which meant TOO CLOSE) Derf pushed off hard against the snow and WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE down he went. "C'mon, Bumi! C'mon!" he called over his shoulder to make sure the dog didn't abandon him at the top with the tree.
Resourceful. That was what he was. Very resourceful!
