Take... Take flight?!

Carlton tried his best to keep up with the instructions but before he knew it, Mr. McLeod's whistle had sounded.

Help.

"Okidoki." He could do this. A little hover. No biggie. He swung one leg over the broom and placed his hands the way he thought was right. Now, the kick off. He exhaled once before kicking off. It was just a little jump. Nothing exciting happened. He jumped again. And nothing.

Carlton bounced on the spot, kicking off from the ground over and over without getting anywhere near a hover. He'd been so proud that he'd gotten his broom to obey him before but now he was stuck again.

Bounce, bounce, bounce. Carlton bounced a little to the right and a little to the left but never reached a hover.

He decided on a new tactic. He'd outsmart the broom. Carlton placed the broom on the ground again and walked in a wide circle around it before quickly standing up next to it. If he moved fast, the broom wouldn't know what hit it.

"Up!" It hesitantly hovered up to his hand. "Boom." One leg swinging over. "Boom. Boom." Both hands firmly in place. "And... BOOM!" Lift off!

And this time he actually left the ground! After about 3465763725 tries, give or take another thousand tries. He was defeating gravity! "Oh neat!" His legs dangled in the air and he felt a tingle in his toes. Wiggling his feet he looked up into the sky. This was beyond awesome. He looked down again... He was high up. Was he supposed to hover this high up?

Carlton gripped his broom harder. He was slowly but steadily rising further up in the air. "Uhm, Professor..." He was confused and too scared to actually do anything productive to get it to stop. "How do I descend..?" Now this wasn't a hover anymore. He squealed. He was officially done with the 'taking flight' of the lesson. He wanted to touch solid ground again, he wanted to return DOWN.

Maybe someone could just grab his shoes and drag him back down to the ground? That would be helpful and stuff.

"Help." He squealed.
