Carlton watched the scene with wide eyes. The very fact that this was even happening was blowing his mind. He was standing with his mouth open in shock. An older student had actually approached him. They'd been attacked by ghosts. And a Prefect had shown up to save them?
Was he in the middle of a movie?
He felt oddly safe around the other students. They were older. Older people knew how to handle stuff. Carlton didn't. Surely older students must be able to save him, right? At least he thought so, until one of the ghosts zeroed in on him as a target and dropped a number of dungbombs on him.
Carlton squealed and tried to dodge the attack, which failed miserably. If he'd known some magic he would have probably been able to use it. But he didn't.
And now he smelled even worse. He let out another scream and brought up the sleeve of his robe to his nose in an effort to drain out the smell, only to be reminded that everything on him stunk. Why was the world doing this to him?!
He crouched down, curled up into a ball and decided to take whatever was coming his way. Maybe if he closed his eyes and hoped for the best the ghosts would disappear and he could pretend that this had never happened.
He opened one eye and peered up through his fingers at the ghosts hovering above them when they stormed off. But not before dumping leeches on the non-Prefect girl.
Carlton squealed again and clumsily moved away from them, still in his crouched position. "Yuck!" He squealed in a high-pitched voice. "I stink!" He exclaimed, his lower lip wibbling. "I don't want to be expelled!"
And there it was, there was just no stopping the tears now.
