It didn't matter how much anyone had told her, the fact that there were ghosts at Hogwarts was so weird and SO COOL. The redheaded firstie looked up at the translucent friar and smiled. "I'm Hazel. Hazel Martin-Pryce."

SPOILER!!: Isa, Henry, Brian

Who was this pretty person? Kane’s brother? ”Hi, I’m Isa!”

Another new firstie! ”Hi Ambrose, I’m Isa! Welcome to Hufflepuff!”

Isa smiled at the older puff girl. ”My summer was great! How was your summer?”

Isa smiled at Lizzie. ”It’s hard to describe what Hogwarts is like to someone who has never been at the school. I think you’ll love it here!”

Cute new boy Kane was in the same year as her! ”Yeah, I’m a second year too.” Isa smiled at Kane. She was twirling her hair around her finger as she talked. ”Where in America are you from? My family used to live in California. I don’t remember much of it though because we moved here when I was 2, but we still go to visit my grandparents and cousins there in the summer sometimes.”

In the midst of welcoming all the new firsties, Isa was also catching up with all of her other Hufflepuff friends. ”Hi Carl! I’m really excited for everything this year, especially meeting all of the firsties! Are you excited for this year?” Isa was so excited that she couldn’t stop smiling.

Hi firstie! ”Hi, I’m Isa! Welcome to Hufflepuff! What’s your name?”

Isa saw Henry waving at her and waved back at him with a smile. Her Hufflepuff family was great.

Look at all the new Hufflepuff firsties! There were so many of them! ”Hi, I’m Isa! Welcome to Hufflepuff! What’s your name?”

Hello friends! Isa smiled at the girl who had just sat down at the table. Was she knew? ”Hi, I’m Isa!”

Look, the Friar was here! It was always exciting to see the house ghost make an appearance. ”Hello Alfred!” Isa waved at the ghost.

Another new Hufflepuff! ”Hi, I’m Isa! Welcome to Hufflepuff! What’s your name? How are you?”

Look! It was adorable favorite firstie Hazel and Hazel was a Hufflepuff too! ”Hazel! Welcome to Hufflepuff! We’re in the same house! Derf is in Hufflepuff too! Have you seen him? I think Derf might have a problem once we get to the common room because we have an indoor garden. Isa was concerned about the well being of her favorite firstie friends. Oh, Hazel had a question? ”What's your question? I might be able to answer it. Our prefects Juno and Brian should be around somewhere.”

Anytime a new Hufflepuff was called out, they got a big boisterous cheer from this fifth year. And was it just him, but did there seem to be a lot of new badgers this year? That was great though, and he watched the newest boy to be sorted (Levi) head to their table. "Hey there! Welcome to Hufflepuff!" Henry greeted him with a grin.

And before he could say much more, Henry noticed another new Hufflepuff headed their way. This girl (Valerija) looked to be a little older than a first year, so Henry figured she might be transferring in and he returned the wave. "Hi," he greeted her with a smile. "I'm Henry. Welcome to Hufflepuff!"

Henry returned Kat's smile as she turned to talk to him. "Oh, sure.. it's great to see everyone again," he grinned. Of course, he tried to see friends over the summer, but he was glad to see them all the time now too. Plus another year of learning magic would be cool even if he didn't look forward to the homework. He laughed and glanced up at the staff table, answering her spoken thoughts with a nod. "Oh, I know. I'm starving. I don't know why they don't just start off with the food and then work the speech and sorting in." Though he guessed it would be kind of hard to sort students while they were eating. There was probably a better compromise but he didn't give it any more thought.

Oh, new little Hufflepuff was polite and Henry gave Simon a smile when he introduced himself. "Nice to meet you, Simon," he said, shaking the boy's offered hand. "My name's Henry. I'm in my fifth year here, so if you have any questions about anything, let me know, okay?" He remembered feeling a little overwhelmed on his first day here but Hufflepuffs were usually pretty welcoming and helpful. They stuck together.

And there was his favorite house ghost! Henry gave the Friar a big grin as he floated by their table. He always did feel weird about calling him Fat Friar... it just seemed mean, okay? Even if the ghost said he was alright with it. But he didn't know that his name was really Alfred! "Hey, Friar!" Henry greeted him with a grin. "How was your summer?" What did ghosts do all summer when students and teachers weren't around anyway?

Henry turned to the boys from Ilvermorny next. He'd have guessed they were American anyway considering their accent, now that he was talking to them. It didn't sound like Brent knew Zara, but it was cool. It was just a question, though it might have been cool for the other boy if one of his friends was already here. "Maybe I'll mention it to her and introduce you." It was just too bad she wasn't sitting right there. He glanced down the end of the table, noticing her head on the plate. Oh.. yeah, she was really tired. But he didn't think she was that tired. Anyway. "So, which part of the US are you from?" he asked Kane. "I've been there just once but I thought it was pretty cool." He liked to travel. "What do you guys think of the UK so far?" It must be tough to move to a different country and leave all your friends behind.

Henry grinned back at the newly sorted first year. "Nice to meet you too, Ambrose," he grinned back. It was nice to see someone so excited to be here and sit at the Hufflepuff table. That was the kind of badger spirit he liked to see. "Cool name. I don't think I've met another Ambrose before." Nope, he was certain of it. "I'm a fifth year, so if you need anything or have any questions, just let me know." He still remembered how homesick he sometimes got his first year and having a second family in Hufflepuff definitely helped.

While he was busy conversing with the people at the table, Henry was pretty sure he missed someone else being sorted into Hufflepuff. Because as he looked up to the staff table for any sign of the new headmistress about to start her speech, he happened to noticed a new girl (Etta) sitting all alone. And he hadn't yet welcomed her. "Hey there!" he grinned. "Welcome to Hufflepuff!" It was important to him that all the new badgers felt welcomed and excited to be a part of their house.

Eyes back to the sorting, he cheered for the next newest badger (Hazel) as she headed over to the table. But before he could say anything, she already had questions. Well, he supposed that answer would depend on exactly what kind of permission she was seeking, though Isa answered it sufficiently enough. "An older student could probably help you out too, in general, if the prefects aren't handy," he added. "Though if it's a really important, tricky question, you might need a teacher." There were certain things you had to get special staff permissions for and he pointed up to the staff table. "Oh, and welcome to Hufflepuff!" Big smile.

Well, Brian Woods wasn't quite what one would call that, but he did have an uncanny ability to show up just as he was being spoken of. It almost compensated for his uncanny ability to be late for literally everything. Breakfast, lunch, classes, prefect meetings. You name it, he was probably walking in only as you questioned where he was.

"Somewhere would be right here. Had a good summer, Isa?" It was normally recommended that he ask these questions, right? He was quite certain. Taking a seat and watching what was left of the sorting, his eyes might have been a little glazed with Nostalgia. He still remembered the hat sitting there on his head, quite like a hat and not saying anything for a good while. And then telling him he'd make a good Ravenclaw.

Well, Ravenclaw wasn't where the cookies were, so here he was. Hufflepuff. And watching the last sorting he'd experience as a student. Ever. Of course he wasn't tearing up.

And turning to the girl whose question Isa had answered. "That would be me," he nodded, offering a hand. In case she'd missed the interaction. "Brian Woods, Hufflepuff prefect at your service." Although in his experience, this service had ended up being inclusive of yelling at rude house ghosts and losing a good few house points before the term had even begun. Yet another reason he wasn't fond of Peeves and Miffy. But today was a good day, nothing had gotten in the way of that yet (save for the prefect meeting, but even that was sorted out).

Now to address the rest of the table. "Reverend," he grinned up at the ghost. "Glad to see you again. Was the castle terribly lonely this summer?" Because, well. He imagined it was quite dull if you were hanging around the same people you had for the past five hundred years. "The rest of you too, had a good break, yeah?"

It was good to be back, really.

But it seemed like there was no shortage of people trying to answer her question. First it was the girl with the muffins and then some other person, but before she she could follow up with where she might find those people or what her question actually is, the boy prefect person introduced himself!

"Oh! Hi! Ok.." she started, wondering how to phrase this. She scrunched up her face as she peered back toward the other house tables. "I want to go check on some of my friends who ended up in other houses who I think might be upset." She looked back at the prefect with big, concerned doe eyes.

"Is it allowed if I want to go do that during the feast?"
