"W-what?" he stammered, unsure how to react. He didn't know what shocked him more, Rose not being angry at him for kissing her hand or her thinking he already was worthy of her. Did she not know how flawed he was? No, of course not, otherwise she wouldn't have said what she did! "N-no one's ever said that-" he began, but his voice broke and his eyes were suddenly glistening.

He quickly turned away, holding his hands behind his back as he watched the hungry barn owl fly away. He couldn't bring himself to look at Rosalyn; he was afraid he'd cry or try to hug her, or Merlin forbid both, if he did. The thought crossed his mind to make some excuse and bid a hasty retreat back to his office, but he didn't want her to blame herself for making him sad again. Merlin, that had been terrible! He could never forgive himself for letting her think that as long as she did... And he wasn't even sad at all. He was shocked and overjoyed and so deeply moved by her acceptance. He hoped she'd understand...
It was Gaston's turn to be shocked. He had clearly been hurt a lot in the past. Even though he hadn't told her about it - and didn't have to - it was fairly obvious by the way that he was so unsure of himself. Apparently most people didn't think that he was even worth a chance. "I know what it's like to feel like you are not good enough for someone." Her thoughts turned to- NOPE! She was not going to let herself think of him because he didn't deserve it. Instead she continued speaking... or would have if Gason hadn't turned away from her.

Immediately she wondered if she had upset him again, but Rosalyn was sure that she hadn't. It was more likely that he was just not wanting her to see him getting emotional. She did not understand why he would be ashamed but then she knew that it was a stigma among males to show feelings. Nonsense in her opinion. "You don't need to hide your feelings." Really. There was nothing wrong with it.
