So yes, the quill could stay. He was just going to ignore it.
If he was completely honest with himself, he half-expected the Gryffindor to give him a sassy answer in return. An answer that was reminiscent of the lesson they had just had. So, when the fourth year actually spoke, Hirsch was actually pleasantly surprised with the answer. Though, he hardly thought it was a joke in any sense but this was a better answer than he had expected so he was going to brush the joke part aside. "Exactly," he said, nodding his head slightly, "Not only were you talking while I was teaching, which is disrespectful I'll have you know, but you insulted a guest and mocked an apology instead of saying a simple 'I'm sorry'. Which then fuelled another argument and upset quite a few people." Pause. "I don't care what the history behind that mockery was and it doesn't bother me that you dislike the Toussaints but there's a time and a place and a lesson isn't one of them. In these situations, you need to learn to swallow your pride and hold your tongue." Understood?
Deep breaths. "I...... am going to have to impose some kind of consequence because of this."
It turned out that he wasn't going to get any kind of reaction from Daxton Prince. He would be lying if he said that he hadn't been expecting a blank expression but this was stretching it a little. Was the boy that disinterested in whatever it is he had to say? This was all very important, surely a reaction was necessary?
.......... Which he then got. In the form of a note.
Hirsch was curious to see whatever it was that the boy was writing down but as soon as he read the words, he deflated slightly. He didn't have a mother?! That was harsh, wasn't it? "The woman who's been looking after you all these years isn't your mother?" He found this hard to believe and his tone, along his with the expression on his face, could plainly tell that that was the case. However, he marched onwards. "Well, your mother is concerned. She wants you to see someone with whom you can talk about any other issues you may be having. Someone who could provide you with some medical knowledge and who could provide you with the support you need. Is that something you'd like?"
Deep breath. "I also need to talk to you about concerns I have about your schooling." At this, he paused rather dramatically to push his glasses further up his nose before continuing, "Your attendance is atrocious. You cannot possibly look towards passing your OWLs if you don't attend your lessons, at the very least. They're mandatory, after all, and you could be missing out on some crucial information that could come up in your exams." Boring but true. "In saying that, though, the little pieces of homework that you have handed in," That was a whole new concern right there. "have been exceptional. They show some kind of potential and show that you're a smart kid. Apply yourself in the right way and you could go far." Which might be a slim possibility if he didn't attend his lessons.
And now came the heavier topic he needed to discuss with the boy. But instead of bombarding him with pieces of information that he knew, the Defence Professor opted for another tactic. "Tell me about these fights you've been part of." And the shoplifting case, while he was at it.
And yes, he could write it down if he wanted.
She was being very quiet during this little meeting. It was a fact to be noted and one that, he hoped, didn't mean that she was being presented with too much information at once. Or that she didn't understand what it was he was trying to say.
But, it seemed, he didn't need to worry about that because that nod told him everything he needed to know. "Excellent! I'll have to start planning something challenging enough, then." What, he didn't quite know, but it was going to have to be good enough. And nothing that would cause injuries, mind you. "If you need extra time and space to practice, the Private Practice Room, the Dueling Arena and the Defence Areas will all be open longer than usual." For a certain Miss Franks-Mundie. "So you can still use those spaces." Just be back in your common room before curfew, okay? Otherwise Art would be after his neck.
His answer couldn't have gone down better with the girl. The enthusiasm got him smiling wider, even if there was an amused side to it as well. "That happy?" Not a bad thing, mind you. "You already do a good job of that as it is, Noelle." Just saying.
Holy Merlin.
This beautiful man was just Noelle's head a run for her money. She was flipping back and forth through determination, pride, happy, nervous, doubtful back to determination. She wanted to make him proud, but above all else.... she wanted to do this for others. She didn't want anyone to be in the situation she had been. It had almost broken her. In fact, it had broken her. Kicked her. Beat her. But she somehow managed to heal, with deep scars, but heal nonetheless.
" I look forward to the challenge." And then to challenge him further... " Lets just hope its challenging enough." Noelle added with a hint of a smirk. She could get away with talking to him like that because they shared the same kind of drive.
Noelle knew the other rooms were available. She often practiced whenever she had the time. She longed for the long hours of practice she was able to do last year before she took on so much.
" Hey professor........... I just want to make sure I am realistic in my endeavors. And I think I am. I think I'm starting out early So by the time I graduate, I'll be on the right path to where I need to be. And yes, sacrifices have to be made for my goals, but I think they are more than do-able. My question is, as a professor... do you think they are unrealistic?"
She wanted a view from a professional.
