Rooney Brownyn was a prefect, a well-known theater nerd and not exactly someone you might worry about in a duel, but Aslan wasn't the kind of person to underestimate those around her and as she sized up her opponent three key things struck her.
One: that the young man had a fierce temper - perhaps only when a Gryffindor was involved I.E: Olivia Philips, Blaise Bellaire, Charlotte Kettleburn, and Minnie Darling - regardless, that anger and aggression was something to keep in mind during this bout.
Two: that Ravenclaw's no matter how lazy or unacademic they might seem /always/ had tricks up their sleeves and she would have to pay him close attention throughout it all.
And Three: that Rooney had some really fantastic hair.
It wasn't her best observation, but she hadn't studied him very well before this (something she was a bit annoyed with herself over) and it wasn't easy to be observing while running through spells in her head. She tucked back a loose strand from her low ponytail and gave a bow as was tradition before taking up her stance.
In the last duel she had made the mistake of trying to work against her nature. To become rigid and straightforward in her magic and it had led her to some very unwelcome results, and the realization that only through yielding to her nature could she succeed here. She would be as changing, fluid and fickle as water. She would embrace the constant shifting of her thoughts, no strategy- no finesse- this would be pure spirit, nerve and mind.
With her feet planted firmly and eyes still locked on Rooney Aslan subtly flourishes her wand. "Cantis!" She called out. He liked singing didn't he? Well, here was his chance. She moved a little to the side, just for traction and hoped that the cantis would land and stick long enough to distract Rooney from the
nonverbal Levicorpus she had sent his way. it was a spell that was tricky to master and had it not been for dueling matches with Daxton Prince she might never had gotten it down, but even so, there was a chance it wouldn't hit.
Her heart raced, her mind reeled. She was water.
