The fact that she was making a play at looking innocent didn't convince him of the fact either. Looks were deceiving, and she was too good to be true. "Uh huh, but I don't doubt you'd find them anyway..." and if she didn't, he would.

They were in this together, he'd be there to ~~corrupt~~support her.
