Paige was fairly certain that Professor Stewart had misheard her just now given the uncertainty of tone with her response to her question. She had been asking why the professor had selected this film...unless the technicolor process WAS the reason...which had the Hufflepuff's hand raised once again to ask WHY when another student (Tak) posed her question, the one she had been dancing around for a bit now and just unable to bring herself to speak directly, and thus her hand promptly went back to her lap.
Watching the film seemed harmless enough, potentially, but as Paige reached for her quill and a fresh piece of parchment...she knew she would be spending the time comparing the book and the film. Primarily where changes had been made and all accompanying judgements that came from that.
Turning her attention to the screen, Paige was confused at first. Where was this color they were just discussing? She was just about to set her quill to parchment and make some judgements about this - along with raise her hand and ask the professor - when a thought crossed her mind. More a passage from the text than a thought rather, seeing as she had practically memorized the text after having read it so many times. Read it and had it read to her.
"...the sun had baked the plowed land into a gray mass..." she whispered to herself mostly. "...even the grass was not green, for the sun had burned the tops of the long blades until they were the same gray color to be seen everywhere. Once the house had been painted, but the sun blistered the paint and the rains washed it away, and now the house was as dull and gray as everything else..." OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
Which meant that the technicolor would surely make its appearance once she landed in Oz...
This was an artistic choice! One that...actually made SENSE.
Unlike the ruby slippers.
She was going to be upset about that...for a while.
Sorry muggle filmmakers.
Nodding her head, somewhat approvingly, Paige made a little note on her parchment in regards to the color choice for this part of the film, in Kansas, to best reflect the visual and tone Baum had created with his writing.
