But also, they were a spot too cheerful in their melody for the Gryffindor's taste.
So was the rest of this... Taco'ween, but she'd shown up anyway. Curiosity, and a strangely chivalrous desire to support Brian (who really didn't deserve her support considering their last conversation) had brought her to the event.
Negative much? Yes, yes, she was, but it was hard not to be lately especially if you were an already moody teen girl. She glanced about, not searching for anyone in particular, rather just people watching and making absolutely no attempts to hide it. There was that Azura girl, the one who spoke too much in class and seemed to have a new beau every other week and talking to her was one of their new professors, but Aslan had no idea what she was teaching, in fact, she hardly remembered her name... but the dark hair and large eyes.. That seemed vaguely familiar.
She sipped her drink, deciding the name didn't currently matter and turned her dark eyes to another pair. Sir Nicholas and the-least-creepy Newton on staff were Discussing... Moldy cheese and his death? That was vaguely interesting and Aslan discreetly edged closer in an attempt to better overhear the rest. As a rule, Daxton did not tend to frequent any of the Hogwarts social events, particularly the ones that the prefects put on. This was for a variety of reasons, the most significant of these being:
1. Daxton was not a social individual.
2. Daxton did not go where there tended to be loud noises and an overwhelming amount of food.
3. Daxton neither recognised nor accepted the authority of the school prefects.
But today, he was here at the Hallowe'en event and even dressed for the occasion, sort of, with a pair of angel wings - transfigured from the innards of a pillow by the very person he was in attendance with - to go with his completely white outfit. The outfit itself had been black before it, too, had been magically altered, as Daxton had owned next to no white clothing, and would not waste his money on some ridiculous costume.
The angel costume in question complimented Aslan's perfectly, and Daxton thought it was also quite the accurate exercise in sarcasm; these were the only reasons he had come dressed up.
Aslan herself was the reason Daxton was in attendance at all, despite loathing Hallowe'en. Of course, had he known that Aslan had come to support Brian Woods, of all people, he... may still have come. Because Aslan. Because Aslan was here, and Daxton wanted to be where Aslan was, and sometimes that meant risking the hordes of Hogwarts.
He stood close to her, feeling quite uncomfortable with the settings, the impassive look on his features incongruent with his intense feelings of displeasure which were partly due to his proximity to the food - the smell was making him feel ill, and the sheer amount of people in attendance was not helping him feel any less overwhelmed. It was too loud, and everyone was far too happy. He saw no benefit in being here, and found it all to be almost a complete waste of time.
After getting Aslan's attention by nudging her arm - ignoring the fact that she seemed to be determined to listen in to someone else's conversation just as he ignored the professor who had addressed her - Daxton raised his hands and signed one simple sentence to her: 'This is stupid.'
Just so that she was aware.
