She liked creatures, she didn't want to scare them.
She kind of wanted to get closer to the Thestral. Even though she couldn't see them. She knew lots about the other creatures. It was the Thestral she was interested in. She was just standing around, watching when she noticed that Paige seemed to be feeding thin air! But she wasn't! She was feeding a Thestral!
Carefully Harriet approached the older puff, and the other girl that she was with them. "Do they look scary Paige?" Because she figured something that represented death must look scary. Quote:

"Hmm?" she murmered, her attention drawn to the younger Gryffindor who had appeared by her side. "Oh, sure. Here. I have a couple of extra slices still," she said, offering one as she did. "I...can't say for sure? If they are aware or not if people can see them." That seemed like something perhaps the professor could tell them though. "I've never read about them having a sixth sense for that sort of thing...but then again...it would also make sense for there to be some sort of magical connection between their milky eyes and those that have seen death. Perhaps a similiar sort of magical bond found between a wizard and their familiar..."
So...basically little lion...the seventh year did not know...but she was pretty good at speculation.
Smiling at Hattie as she made her way over, Paige shook her head. "Surprising is more like it," she corrected, at least to her. "But...it's easy to understand why they receive such a misconceived reputation. Especially when standing next to the other winged horse breeds. No feathers or flowing manes...but black skeletal forms with whiplike tails and wings like a bat's. But the eyes are still soft and eerily warm."
The threstal had come much closer during the girls' conversation, its breath tickiling Paige's skin as it began to eat the meat she still clutched in her hand. "And he is right in front of us now," she whispered.
The attention of others nearby had been drawn to the trio as well. After all, where there were more humans...there were more meat offerings. Genny smiled at the Hufflepuff whom she met at the cosmetic shop during summer before she focused again on Paige and what she was saying. So, Thestrals did not look scary but surprising, with wings like bats? "Wooow." The magical properties thing made sense to her. She decided t believe they knew when people saw them or not, eye contact was a vital thing in the end. In fact, now she was thinking of ways to be able to see a real one, not see it via someone else. Maybe her dad would help her with that.... somehow...
"Thanks!" She chirped, taking a slice of meat in her hand and not minding the bloody stench it gave. Wait, what?? Genny froze when the older girl whispered he was in front of them now. Brown eyes going wide, she felt her body tense at the thought of being seen but not see anything. It was so vulnerable and something she wasn't used to. Her vulnerabilities were... well, almost nonexistent so this was completely a new experience. "Can I feed him, too? Tell me if I'm close..." the eager Gryffindor rose her hand with the meat slice to her shoulder's height and fixed it there. How tall were they exactly? |
