28. Nox

"Nox," Sirius said, giving in. It wasn't so much that he followed rules, even Lily's rules, it was the fear he saw etched on their faces. He sat down on the floor near them and reached out to take Harry, his Godson. He lent his head down to place a kiss on his forehead.
"Sorry Sirius. I don't want to yell at you."
Sirius snorted, quietly. "Yell at me? I barely heard you and I'm in the same room as you."
Lily half smiled in response. A grudging Sirius wouldn't crack jokes. Lily had learned that a long time ago.
"Who told you all of this? What gave you the idea this was a good plan?"
James shrugged. "I don't know, man. We just read things in the paper. People putting vanishing cabinets in their homes in case the Death Eaters come looking for them. We haven't got anything. This is our vanishing cabinet. What's our plan if they find us? We have no escape, so we couldn't really plan for that." He looked to Lily, then back to his best friend. "So we just thought of ways to decrease the chances of us getting found."
