24. Lumos

Scores of candles flickered in the darkness. Romantic shadows adorned the walls. Light and warmth filled the small living area, occupying only two adults and one infant.

So when the door to the house opened, a gust of cold wind rushed in.
"Shut the door Sirius!" Lily hissed at him.
It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the dim, flickering light. "You look awful," Sirius told her.
"Thanks."
"Lumos," Sirius said, igniting the tip of his wand. "That's better. Merlin, why's it so dark in here? Power outage?" he joked.
"Turn it off! Please!"
Lily seemed frantic.
"I need to see where I'm going! Why are you sitting in candle light?"
Lily bit her lip, glancing at her husband.
"We know things are getting worse out there. Well now that we have Harry we don't want to risk anything. What if..."
"What if they learn to track our magic?" Lily said in a hushed tone, aslmost as if she were scared someone would hear her.
"Guys this is crazy, no house is better hiddnen than this one. Your magic isn't going to suddenly reveal your location to Him."
"Please just turn it off. We have enough light."
