Unlike most of the others, Kitty actually felt a little more confident with shears instead of a wand (only for this task of course, usually she felt better with a wand) and so she hurried over to get a pair of shears. Kitty didn't like physical labor, but she didn't have much practice with the cutting spell and she was afraid she might mess it up and hurt her Screechsnap. Besides, back at home Kitty had used shears before when she was helping her mom weed the garden.
She quickly got the shears and returned to her Screechsnap.
"I really don't like the sound of this cutting at an angle business," Kitty fretted as she got her hands around her Screechsnap and tried to position the shear at an angle. The disadvantage of having shears was that now she had to use more effort with both her hands, but it was still better than taking a chance with a spell she didn't know.
Snap! Only four more dead branches to go.
Not if her Screechsnap had anything to say about it! The dried branch had just barely hit the bottom of the pot when the Screechsnap began thrashing back and forth and screeching at the top of its lungs. "UGH!" Kitty wanted to cover her ears but to do that she would have to let go of the plant and drop the shears. As it was, she was just barely holding on. |
