So far this second chance for the dueling club was not going well at all. His confidence had already been bruised last year after he'd had it fully demonstrated to him that he was terrible at magic when compared to his peers; with Olivia not even bothering to show up for a second duel with him, he was ready to just ask Hirsch to please cut him out. What would the point of his being here be, if people knew he was so bad at it that they didn't even feel it worth it to duel with him?

At least Ariadne had turned up. Jaemin squeezed his wand absently, biting his lip and returning her bow; hopefully he'd learned enough things between last term and this term to at least put up a decent fight this time. Hopefully Ariadne wasn't miles better than he was, like everyone else seemed to be. He held his wand up, tensing a little and waiting for the girl to start.

And there it was. That spell was an absolute nope, and Jaemin had at least been ready for it. The small boy lifted his wand and cast, loudly and clearly. "Protego!"

His nervousness had the shield flickering, even as the spell ricocheted off of it; Jaemin frowned, clearly not impressed with himself, and immediately answered her spell with one of his own. Since she seemed so eager to use that charm that everyone seemed to know except him... he'd stick her to the floor. Then she couldn't take advantage of it. "Colloshoo."
