Paul mistook her observation as a plea for a hat for herself. Did anyone else want a hat? Oh, Merlin, that had backfired so magnificently, and now Dot had her own hat to match the professor's. She cocked it to one side and gave the man a weak smile. There were just... no... words for how she felt about this situation.
It didn't even match her robes.
"Neat. Thanks... sir. Really." If he was just a little bit less her favorite and less enthused, she'd probably take it off, but now, Dot was required to wear it through class. And maybe be seen with it in the halls occasionally.
Finally, class started, and Dot gratefully turned her attention to the potted daffodil. Poor thing was crowded, that's why it was so loud and cranky. Imagine being shoved into clothes that didn't fit, and Dot would probably be squawking too. "Can we not silence them, sir? They have just as much right to complain about their living situation as anyone. Maybe more, since they don't have legs to lift them out of this pot. Or career aspirations. Or a way to see Fiji someday. I'd complain too."
But she did fill her second pot halfway with dirt as instructed. This Slytherin followed directions.
