So he had showed up. Even brought a dessert. Could he leave now before anyone else showed up and--

Too late.

Unfortunately.

"Is that any way to greet a Professor, Denaker?" Had she already forgotten how much help James had been? Children were so ungrateful.

Airey had not been down to look nor inquire of the man and, truth be told, did not fancy actually asking him either.

"Sweet solstice...did not know this was a pot luck," he mumbled to Pebbles, who did not seem too phased by them arriving sans anything to contribute to the spread. "Nor did I know you baked," he grinned at James, the astronomer's fingers wiggling about as he eagerly snatched a brownie and set it on his plate.

Bakes goods. The man was a sucker for them and the only exception when it came to gifts from students.
The world was against him today, wasn't it?

You'd think with all the GOOD he had just done by a) Showing up b) Voluntarily bringing A DESSERT DISH and c) Being semi-approachable, would mean that he'd have a streak of good karma or something. Of course not. That was asking for too much.

Much like, Airehead Flamsteed. Always asking for too much.

James gave him a forced smile, knowing very well that the man was trying to get under his skin. "Well, I wouldn't have wanted to show up..." cue the pointed, judgmental look, "empty handed. That would have been rather embarrassing." James Draper would have the last laugh, thank you very much.

Not to mention the fact that James didn't actually bake these brownies. He had found them. But no one had to know they were being re-gifted. So he'd play coy. If anyone asked, he did bake them. So thanks, Airhead.

Now, what was the other purpose of this event? Trying to envision her name on a trophy? Too late for that headmaster. She had TONS of those. One even in this very room.
Merlin, when would this be over? The "event" had essentially just started and James was already hoping for the end. "Miss Richards," he nodded, taking a few steps towards the Prefect. Leaning forward just a bit, "The flyer didn't mention an 'end time', did it?" Was he being too hopeful?

Probably.

But if anyone ought to know, it should be the Prefects. James had realized a few days into the last term that often they were more clued in than most of the staff.

Heading for the food table Leo came to a stop near Airey and James and asked his colleagues. "Are the plantain chips any good? Were we supposed to bring along food to this party?" Someone had brought healthy food and brownies. Should Leo have made some cheese rings or a dessert?

........ Nope.

James didn't even want to deal with this one.

So instead of giving the librarian a definite answer, James only shrugged. Airhead could take this one.
