The newly redheaded Hadley shot her best friend an accusatory look, as if calling her a tattle-tale. Then she shrugged. "Okay." That was all. But it was spoken the same way Hadley Denaker normally said, Yeah, sure. Whatever. She descended the rest of the stairs and hopped over the railing rather than try and squeeze past the Watsons.

"Just don't remove the mural okay? It was a gift to Rachel." Speaking of...Hads grinned. She practically skipped over to the tree and pulled out two wrapped gifts. "Part one of your present. I need to go get your other part. Feel free to open them while you wait or whatever." Then Hads was gone.

Wimple tried to find a branch on the tree to perch on, but none could hold him and after knocking off many ornaments the owl resigned to perching on the stairs' railing. Asher on the other hand was doing a ferret war dance, and playfully attacking the ribbons on the presents and ornaments that had fallen.

A few minutes later, Hads was back, holding a large cage with a pure white owl in it. "She's yours!" Hadley announced, beaming. She set the cage down in front of Rachel, so they could meet. "Picked her out for you, so your personalities would be compatible. She counts as both my Christmas gift, and next Birthday gift to you. Plus one of your gifts from your parents because they helped. Merry Christmas!"
