It was the point of it all. He couldn't do the colour-changing charm because all he associated it with was art, because of the lesson, and now he would forever be turned off of the idea of eating however you said this stuff because he'd just remember being punished for not having a 'regular' name.

The grip on his arm shook his attention, and Jaemin only caught half a glance at Blaise before the taller Gryffindor boy was moving him. His frustration was giving way to upset, and he didn't like the painful lump in the back of his throat, nor the slight prickling behind his eyes. The small Slytherin drew a soft, shuddering breath and let Blaise shuffle him away, a slight tremor in his still balled-up fists. He didn't say a word as the other boy went about lighting his fire, just stood there until he was handed the notepad.

It only took him a moment to read it and understand it, and when he looked up from the page Blaise was already coming back. He nodded lightly at the tall boy, hurt still evident in his eyes as he held out the notepad for him to take; his own things were actually very close to where Blaise was set up, and he moved to pull them over to the Gryffindor's station instead, only taking a moment to put out his own small fire. With magic, because this was still Potions class.

"I don't mind cutting up the cabbages," he murmured, voice quiet as he settled himself on the ground and opened the small chest with the ingredients inside. "I help mom do it when we make kimchi at home."

That involved a lot more cutting, though. This would be easy in comparison, and give him a reason to not look at the Muggle Studies professor anymore.

Blaise was glad the scribbled words had gotten through to the boy, even if only on some level as he could still see what could be remnants of hurt in the boys eyes. This sort of thing was to be expected. Jaemin had been here for a year and a half, soon he'd realize the pattern too. For now, they had stew to make and for as much as he could, he would keep the boy more progressively occupied. No need to have two mopers around one fire.

The Gryffindor received his notepad, instructing it back to work with the floating quill. It had no doubt been having a field day just now.

Op, and he didn't mind cutting the cabbage. "That's the spirit." Blaise offered him a smile, one that though not pitying, gave clear indication he understood. Shortly after, the boy turned to a classmate, asking them to fill his cauldron with water FOR him. Just one of those times he didn't have his wand with him, you know? If this was to go on, someone else had to do it and Jaemin was already set to cutting the cabbages--though funny enough, he COULD cast aguamenti. It was the first spell his wand complied with. Didn't make him more inclined to take his wand to Potions. Nope. As it turned out, there was already water in the crate. Crisis completely averted, look at that.

"Kimchi sounds interesting." As did anything that wasn't English to this 13 year old. "What's in it?" While he spoke, Blaise placed the slices of meat into the cauldron one by one. It was almost like a pattern, except he was just trying to make them all fit and soon enough they were overlapping. That was okay....right?

Next he added the salt and pepper, again hoping he was doing it right. "If this goes wrong, I know some people we can get to share theirs." Also, the boy could add the cabbage once he was done. Team work and all that fancy stuff.
