Skylar had been busy coddling her crup, because he was quite adorable and cuddly. And honestly, she loved animals, so the fact that she got to play with a puppy - a magical one at that - was just too awesome! Her parents were going to be thrilled when they heard about this lesson. The first thing that the first year did was take in his name; Ace. Well okay, not a bad name.
Next thing, as she sat beside Ace, brushing his fur in nice even strokes, very methodically, the first year found it very relaxing. She could feel the crup's breath beneath her brush strokes, diaphragm moving in and out and it just felt so nice. The breath of a living thing beside her. A furry friend. Having lost track of time in her moments of breathing with the pup, Sky realized when everyone was already nearly done with bathing their dogs, that she hadn't done any of that! OH NO! Draper wasn't going to trust her in caring for the creatures again because of how easily she lost track of time!
Squirting a pea-sized amount of paste onto the toothbrush, Sky faced her crup. "Come now, this won't hurt too much," Sky cooed. "And I'll give you a treat if you cooperate. And love." Dogs loved to be loved. Just as people did. With one hand to pull open Ace's mouth, the first year swiftly stuck the toothbrush into his mouth and scrubbed. And barely did one half before she felt the jaw snap at her. "Hey! Not nice!" Fortunately her reflexes were young and she'd managed to get her hand out in time, but still. Toothbrush dangling from his mouth, Sky frowned. "Well at least let me rinse your mouth..." She tugged lightly on the brush to force his mouth open and cast "Aguamenti" to rinse the paste from his mouth. "Good boy!"
Now, time for the bath. Casting "Aguamenti" again but this time the jet sprayed over the dog, effectively wetting dog and getting him acclimated to the wet conditions. She then filled the tub, and with care, guided Ace into the tub. So far, so good. Squirting the shampoo into her hands, she rubbed them together to get them to form nice suds. And then carefully again, she rubbed her hands through his fur, making sure to be extremely careful to get his fur clean. It was like washing her hair, only much shorter, but it was all over. Time to rinse through! Using her wand, with a carefully aimed aguamenti spell, Sky let the water run through his fur, washing the suds away, and carefully lifted up his foot pads and let the jet stream flow over them as well.
Now she had a soaking wet dog, but it was clean at least! Grabbing a towel, she began to pat him down carefully. Giving him a nice hug for being a cooperative pup throughout the whole process.
