Mason was confident. Like really really confident, since she had ended 7th overall for the First Years last year, which was basically like 1st place if you thought about it. . . well in her eyes at least.
So it was only natural that she was calm and cool, strutting into the arena like it was no big deal, spinning her Yew in her hands and whistling softly. Her opponent was someone that she didn't know personally, Spades was his name. She'd only ever seen him in class and maybe even in the hallways, not that she could really recall how he looked.
So it was kind of a surprise when she saw the boy and his super fluffy-looking hair. She shot him her best Slytherin-worthy-smirk and bowed her head slightly. "Spades." Mason greeted as she stepped towards him, smirk still in place, "You ready?"
Before he could even answer, however, she did a quick step backwards and pointed her wand at him, "Flipendo!" she said the incantation and did the squiggly-little hand-movement, sending the flashing blue light his way. It was kind of a sneaky thing to start so unexpectedly, but she needed to catch him off guard if she wanted to win, which she really did.
