Phew, she was finally taking him seriously; more importantly, she'd stopped trying to eat the food, if only temporarily. This was a step in the right direction and he had to make it work.

No doubt this could have been the work of Professor Primeaux. "Remember how the Charms Professor was harping on about how we lack discipline? If words don't work, what's the next best thing? Spiking food with behaviour modifiers."

It all added up if you thought about it.
