"Erm." Dalton offered a shrug by way of answer, averting his eyes from the other Slytherin boy. "Just... Just haven't had time. Don't see the point." He carried on studying the bag as a way to avoid looking at Ollie. It was ridiculously battered, but laziness was an easier explanation that being too poor and disliked to ask. As for the other boys offer... Well, the tips of Dalton's ears turned pink as he was forced to look back up. "Don't... Honestly, don't worry about it."
"You're welcome." Ollie didn't really think it was too big of a deal. After all, it was just using a charm, not like he was sewing the backpack back together. Not that Ollie wouldn't have offered to do that if he could, but he knew absolutely nothing about sewing. He was just glad he could help Dalton out...even if Dalton could have done the charm on his own.

When Dalton got kind of weird when answering his question though, Oliver immediately felt bad. He hadn't meant to make the fellow Slytherin uncomfortable, he just wasn't really thinking when he asked the question. "Oh yeah, I totally get that," he said, trying to play it cool. He of course wouldn't have minded what the real reason was, but he figured accepting that answer as the real one would probably help Dalton feel less uncomfortable. And now Ollie would be dropping it and pretending like he never asked. No need to ruin the smaaaaall acquaintanceship he had with one of the only boys he knew at school. Well, there was Brian, but with all that had happened with him this summer, Ollie knew not to expect to have him around forever, or much longer even, sadly.

Shrugging his shoulders, Ollie went off to his trunk to search. "I really don't mind. It's not like I'm using it anyway." He got down on his knees and started throwing things out of his trunk onto the floor around him. "I can't promise it'll be any better than yours, but worth a try right?" There was no stopping him now. Ollie would find another backpack in there one way or another.
