She could cry it was so beautiful. A triple decker chocolate cake with fridge icing and chocolate chips and a single cherry on top. This was by far the greatest thing Lucas Pendergast had ever bought her (wedding ring included). Taking up her fork, Tala didn't slice the cake as was the usual, rather, she began to scoop into it as is. ugh.
The texture, the chocolatey center, the whiff of the fudgey frosting, it was all too much. Tala was honestly going to cry. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. Coffee. Where was the coffee... Emmalee had entered the cafeteria with one purpose in mind: locate caffeine. Sure, she had the means to make tea in her office, but she had just been in the day care and frankly, being mom to two-year-old twins was proving to be almost as exhausting as being mom to twin infants. The difference was that now instead of crying, her daughters talked back. And ran. And smashed food in her hair.
To people who didn't know her, nothing would seem amiss. But to people who did know her, she was a little less shiny, a little more quiet, and a whole lot more tired.
She was beginning to feel a bother to her friends, a burden to her father and step-mother, and not exactly the best supervisor in the Ministry.
But all that would have to wait. She needed coffee.
