He dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out the light tennis ball he'd gotten from Airey last term, and tossed it to the prefect as she leaned against the wall. She could check the gravity after he did the spell!
"I like learning new things. New magic especially. Haddie and I are gonna learn the Patronus Charm this term." He was DETERMINED. It took him a good long minute to realise that maybe his determination could probably be a little... well, scary. He held up his wand. "I'm gonna do the spell now. Watch, okay?"
So she could tell him if he did anything wrong.
The small boy pointed his wand straight up into the air, eyes flicking up to watch it as he started moving it around in a circle. This part he had worked on at home, but without his wand, so he wouldn't get in trouble. His timing was pretty great now! "Derivo Gravitatem."
One circle completed, as he finished speaking the spell.
"Derivo Gravitatem."
A second, this one with more force behind it. DETERMINATION. Just one more circle and spell... he had to get it right, so he could show Prefect Dot. MAXIMUM EFFORT!
"Derivo Gravitatem!"
The misty white light made its appearance again, and Jaemin grinned up at it excitedly before looking at Dot. Hopefully the openings at either end of the hall didn't break it... "Throw the ball up!"
He wasn't sure how to respond to the thing about Flamsteed being selfish. He liked the man, probably more than most of the professors in the school... he taught him stuff! Cool stuff! Nobody could be all that bad if they taught him cool stuff. She liked how serious he was about casting, and Dot pushed off the wall to give Jaemin her full attention. He deserved it... plus she wanted to be vigilant in case everything went wrong and she was suddenly flinging upwards toward the ceiling. But no, it seemed to go off perfectly, or at least it didn't go horribly wrong.
She threw the ball to see if it went right, and it was a very pleasant surprise to Dot when the ball stayed in the air instead of arcing back to earth. Or maybe she shouldn't be surprised... Jaemin had obviously done this spell successfully before.
"The Patronus is tricky. You need the right memory and everything, but I bet you can do it. D'you already know what memory you'll use?" Dot was a seventh year and hadn't quite mastered her patronus... but she'd mastered other spells. It was a good trade, to her mind.
