A quick glance was stolen over towards that quill of his before looking back at its owner. "It's a fact." Really, he did not know what else to say to that. The Gryffindor needed to explain himself better instead of speaking in tongues, almost like a journalist would.
And......... cue an eyebrow raise. See, the man was pretty chill enough to begin with but that request made him lose quite a bit of that coolness he gave off on a daily basis. Was Blaise ordering him around in his own office? Because that's exactly what it sounded like. "How about we both have a seat?"
Either he was dreaming or there was now a certain tension in the air.
Regardless, Hirsch did go to sit down to deal with this situation better.
And then Blaise launched into his speech and the eyebrow still stayed raised. Why? The idea that he, Roderik Hirsch, didn't care about his students. Frankly, that was hurtful to someone who had dedicated his entire life to teaching young minds and educating them. It caused him to grit his teeth lest he say something he probably shouldn't. Maybe the kid was angry or upset and even if he felt the same, he needed to hide that and show a level of maturity. "Firstly, Mr Bellaire," Note the use of the surname? "I do care about your needs and your future. It's why I constantly overlook the duels, even if I have other things to be getting along with." Besides, looking over the duels was much more fun than sitting behind a desk and marking papers. "You are allowed to quit anytime, I won't ask why." Just saying. "Secondly, girls are just as good at dueling and sometimes even better than boys. It's nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of."
Deep breaths. "And lastly, have you tried to convince your mum to let you quit? Why is she so set on you dueling if you hate it so much?" A seat? He thought they should both take a seat? At such a crucial moment as this where young Blaise felt like he'd gotten a firm enough foothold on the situation--despite the man's now somewhat annoyed look--and that he might actually achieve a favourable outcome? But fine. He would sit, if only to appease the man so he wouldn't suddenly kick him out.
Blaise took the seat offered to him, giving the man his undivided attention through his speech and questioning but the boy's face visible sunk at the mention of quitting and the implied suggestion this was all self torture.
As if he'd stay if he had a choice. "That's the problem, Professor. I can't quit. Mum won't let me. She'll have a fit."
Which brought him to the question of why his mother wouldn't let him quit. "I'm not exactly enthused about magic." A gross understatement but there it was. "The only time I ever have my wand with me is when I have dueling and she's trying to capitalize on that I guess. Thinks if this is the only time I use magic then I have to keep at it and maybe I'll develop an appreciation. Thinks if I get shot at enough times I'll develop a bond with my wand." But all it ever did was cause him to resent it further. If only she'd listen. "So I was thinking...just maybe...you could send her the occasional report saying I'm still dueling while excusing me?--You can say I place last all the time, I won't mind, honest!" Please???
